Dear Anuradha Ma'am,
Hope you are in joy... :)
Does t kitchen garden, sapling and slope plan have targets for production ?
How much (in kg ) vegetables / cereals will be available in August 2016 , oct 2016 and further ?
In terms of yeilds we do intend to be sufficient in our vegetable consumption for the no of people living at Sabka Ghar. (Approx 40 persons by Dec 2016) We are also planning a small grain (millet) growth and cow fodder. We do not have a kg evaluation for how much output we will get but we can get that info in the coming monsoons when we are ready for planting.
On the slope we are going for planting which will heal/rejuvenate the soil/land, some timber trees, a few fruit trees to start with. Fruit trees might start giving yield in 3-5 years.
We are planning to experiment with berries and grapevines as well.
So as of now, our plan is to identify the energy input and output in the whole system of Sabka Ghar (including the way of life) & make small changes here and there to save any energy getting wasted. Energy saved is Energy earned. For eg composts, rainwater harvesting, etc etc......and then there are other goals as well --
- Interconnection between elements and support framework
- Healing/Rejuvenating the soils
- Experiment with Bio diversity
- Bring in intensive growing systems like Bio Char, IMO Havesting
- Renovate currect architecture
How will sabka ghar inhabitants (especially children) benefit from this plan ?
We all, including children benefit from this because we know what we are eating. Its safe and healthy. Plus they have fun growing it. Also learn an important life skill on the way.
Also the way we develop a land in the Permaculture way, it requires us to connect with nature at a deeper level, to observe keenly, to understand the link between various plants and insects at work. We are able to make sense of the chaos in nature. All of this knowledge we would love to share with everyone around in our community discussions involving kids as well.
Love n Joy,
Gaurav
