I get on BART at El Cerrito Del Norte and I swear that two out of ten times
I get "see agent" message when I try to swipe my ClipperCard. It's not as
bad at other stations but last weekend at Powell Station my card was read
correctly but I still got the "see agent." At Del Norte I must always swipe
my card at another turnstile as once it's rejected at one spot, it'd never
read correctly.

Is this just me or is everyone using Clipper on BART facing the same
frequency of failure? And what exactly is the cause?

I haven't had a failure in quite a long time, but it used to be as bad
as (or worse than) you describe. Back then I noticed that the same
faregates seemed to be failing regularly, so I tried to avoid those
gates. You might want to mentally track which gates are failing and try
to detect a pattern.

No, I rarely get a "See agent", but what exactly is the cause your problem?
Maybe it's how you "swipe" your Clipper Card.

Don't know how you "swipe" your Clipper Card on BART's Clipper Card reader,
but I personally don't swipe my Clipper Card.

Instead, I touch (tag) the end of My Clipper Card (the end where the
triangles on the card point to) to any Clipper Card reader. I've found over
the years that this produces the best success rate.

I know other transit users lay their Clipper Card flat on the Clipper Card
reader, but in my experience it's not necessary to do so.

Are you actually swiping your Clipper Card across the Clipper Card readers?
If so, that very well could be the problem.
