The future is not so bright for them. Many have believed that they
represented a fad that would die just as quickly as it arose and now, a new
site, Avenues+, demonstrates clearly the weakness in the Pixel Ad punch
line.
The new site very definitively both states and demonstrates that web
advertisers charging by the pixel are not viable. Avenues Internet
Services rams home the point, by allowing visitors to their site to redraw
their pages - MAGNIFIED!
They do provide a traditional pixel ad page and a hybrid they call
Pixelmania and Buy Pixels, respectively, but recommend against them with the
same commitment that Pixel Ads are not viable. Instead, they charge by
relative image size and offer all the features of the page rolled in,
features which include categorization, local grouping and the ability to
repaint the entire page in any of several formats, including a list format.
And if a page fills up, they don't stop, but start a new page and offer
navigation tools to go from page to page.
It was just a matter of time. Like so many gold diggers with pans full of
pyrite, the hundreds of pixel ad sites are doomed to fail.
