My sister is considering the $99/yr plan. Would appreciate any
comments about the ISP/service/plan.

Run. Run away. I just left JPS because of the horrid service. Slow newsfeed,
email that was routinely delayed 8-12 hours (and the problems blamed on
everyone else), email that never reached its destination, random disconnects
every 15-90 minutes, sometimes as often as once every 5 minutes, support that
took 2 days to respond, usually not giving any useful answer...

I gave up on them after less than half a year. All I can say is I
temporarily forgot that you usually get what you pay for. I now believe that
there is a reason most ISPs charge at least $20/month.

My advice is to try one like Concentric that does not charge a setup fee, and
gives a free 30-day trial. That way, you haven't lost much if it doesn't
work out. Oh, and get an email forwarding service, to save changing email
addresses every time you change ISPs.

My sentiments exactly. To add insult to injury, I asked them days ago
to terminate my account and refund the rest of my money (pro-rated
over the 9 months I was on there), and they still haven't done it or
replied in any way other than to simply confirm that they got my
message.

I am amused to see that Mike (Tsoft) poached yet another of their
customers. :-)

JPS Net are TERRIBLE.

Thank you for your responses. Needless to say, my sister won't be
using JSP.

Don't go on price alone. If you want quality service, you should be
willing to pay a couple of dollars per month more. The equipment ISP's
use cost a considerable amount of money, and if the Telephone companies
get their way, ISPs are going to have to start paying into the Universal
service fund to subsidize phone lines in rural areas. This will drive
Internet service prices right up. The FCC is not implementing this now,
but may in the future. If your ISP is offering Voice over the Internet
services, they will DEFINITELY have to pay into this fund.
