Hi all,

I put 174.106.155.65 into my hosts file but my
computer still connects to them on boot.

They aren't really 'roadrunner', are they?

Thanks!

Thanks JC,

I ended up rebooting my router and that appears
to have solved my problem, for now.

(Talking to myself here...)

No Winston, they probably aren't. :)

Or you can just do a "tracert" in a Windows command prompt.

Thanks John. I can't get to a Windows machine just now.

I was 'way more concerned that their connection
was still made even after placement in my hosts
file and a reboot.

What interest would an ISP in Herndon VA have in
a geek in Silicon Gulch, I wonder?

Just go to the kloth.net website and do a whois from there. I checked it and
it belongs to Road Runner, an ISP.

The most reasonable answer appears to be that they are
probing for a bittorrent server.

Thanks!

You can't block an IP address in the HOSTS file.
Just to make sure I just tried it. I put
127.0.0.1 74.125.225.17 (which is Google)
Then I went to http://74.125.225.17 without a problem.
Someone will now likely tell me I'm full of shit.
I have never convinced my bank that they are wrong about anything either!

In article <Xns9EC3C8008C27Dbutter@wefb973cbe498>,

For Windows you probably need a third-party firewall product. For any
Unix-based system (including Mac) iptables works fine.
