Trying to locate firmware for an older WAP11 wireless bridge, to
upgrade to latest version firmware.

Have had NO luck with Linksys "support" page, as the ftp server seems
to be unavailable every time you click on the firmware file.

Any alternate repositories of antique Linksys firmware ??

TIA

looks good to me...

dnow, big warning, watch out, there are all kinda hardware dependencies
and different hardware versions of those things, if you put the wrong
firmware on the wrong WAP, its toast. crunchy toast.

Are you trying 'active mode' FTP behind a firewall? If so, try switching
to passive mode. How you do that depends on your FTP client.

Careful. There are 4 radically different hardware incantations of the
WAP11. No suffix, 2.2, 2.6, and 2.8. I have a pile of the earliest
WAP11 radios with the Atmel chipset. Even the "latest" firmware for
that early piece of junk will hang when presented with high traffic,
no traffic, full moon, and power line glitches.

It's there for me:
ftp://ftp.linksys.com/pub/network/
Methinks this is the page for your unspecified "older WAP11".
http://www.linksys.com/download/firmware.asp?fwid=11
Note that you need to grab two pieces of software to upgrade the
firmware.
ftp://ftp.linksys.com/pub/network/wap11fw14i1.exe
ftp://ftp.linksys.com/pub/network/wap11sw.exe
I ran a test download and everything worked as expected.
Incidentally, you should reset the bridge to default setting after the
upgrade or you will experience weirdness.

I probably have every version of the firmware since the WAP11 was
released. If you can't find it on the Linksys ftp dumpster, supply me
with a version and I'll see if I can find it. Ye're on your own to
determine if it matches your unspecified "older WAP11".

Easiest way is just to use a web browser, because most of them
use passive (PASV) mode by default. (at least used to)

IE6 now does active mode by default if you're using the "FTP Folders" view
option. blah. hmmm, latest incarnation now has a seperate checkbox for
passive, I'm pretty sure that wasn't there a few subversions ago, but I
stopped using IE6 unless I have to (firefox rules).

Ugh. Y'er right.
Tools -> Internet Options -> Advanced ->
[ ] Use Passive FTP (for firewall and DSL compatibility)
Default is unchecked or "active mode".
However, to get the browser to use both PASV and active mode:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;323446
you have to disable the folder view and enable the PASV mode.

FireFox? What happened to FireBird? Oh, I see:
