My computers are on the same phone line, and I've never given anybody my
password. I'm 100% certain this isn't anything I did. But I did change my
password right away just to be safe. Then I made these phone calls....
Earthlink Tech Support told me to scan for both viruses and trojans. I did
that with both McAffee and Norton and came up with nothing. They told me to
call Customer Service...
Earthink Customer Service told me the usage happened on 3 dates (they told me
the specific dates) over the last month, and total simultaneous usage was 3
hours and 25 minutes. They charge $1 per hour after the first 3 hours of
simultaneous usage. Customer Service also told me it was impossible for a
hacker to get my password. They also told me it was impossible that it was
Earthlink's mistake.
I had more words with them, but basically got no answers...
So? Anybody have this problem with Earthlink? Is it possible that I could
disconnect from Earthlink, and they wouldn't detect it? Therefore recording
it as simultaneous usage when I log back in a few minutes later?
If anybody could give me more help than Earthlink, I'd appreciate it. Thank
you.

Sam reason I joined EarthLink. I used to be
jelR'E.M`O+...@hooked.net.
Side note - good news! Somebody renewed the hooked.net domain name
before it expired. The mail.wenet.net server is a little hit-or-miss,
especially in the last few days, both for senders and for me to
retrieve. But it is still reminding me of some of the non-SPAM people
I haven't given my new address to. And no charges for it in months.
Speaking of SPAM, the ELN Spaminator web site has been unreachable for
a few days with a DNS error. It's THEIR OWN service, and they can't
keep a DNS entry?!?!

Good move!

Wow! I did this a couple of times on purpose. Never got dinged for
it. Now I've got their DSL and share the connection between two
machines. No rumors of getting dinged for that, but you're making me
wonder...

But Customer Service ASKS you for your password!!!! So of course it's
possible for some miscreant in ELN's CS to use your account. OK,
maybe they're not hackers. But does that make their claim above true?

I just looked at it -- it is not a DNS lookup error -- the site is presently
not responding. That amounts to the same thing, though.
