YWCA in Santa Clara Valley Needs You

The Following Items are needed by
the YWCA in Santa Clara Valley, 375 S. Third Street, San Jose, CA 95112 USA

Clothing
Sweat Outfits (new or in good condition) and (new) socks, tennis/canvas
shoes and thongs all sizes for men, women and children. (currently out of
sizes 2-4T toddler and 1X-5X adult sizes) For sexual assault victims who
have to leave their clothes at the hospital after evidentiary examination.
If the YWCA didn't supply outfits and underwear, the victims would have to
go home barefoot and in paper hospital gowns. RCC

Uniforms and T-shirts for teen programs are necessary to identify teens and
staff on field trips.
New Options Uniforms: Khaki pants, T-shirts (not red or blue) with YWCA
NEW OPTIONS insignia.
Next Step: T-shirts with YWCA NEXT STEP insignia
Transitions: T-shirts with YWCA TRANSITIONS insignia

Gift Certificates
Gift Certificates for work clothing and tools for job club participants in
New Options, Next Step and Transitions.

Gift certificates for all infant shops, toy stores, department stores for
children's items for child care programs.

Grocery certificates - from any local market SS?, PE, all other

Gift certificates for graduates of our at-risk teen and needy families in
our other programs. Anything from Cds, clothing, infant products,
computers, tools, household items, furniture, and automobiles. If the items
are used they need to be in good condition.

For NEXT STEP/TRANSITIONS the provision of incentives for motivating
positive behavior and rewarding program completion is essential in turning
around the lives of these at-risk teens.

Lifetime Sports and Creative Arts components.

Floor mats for self defense and tumbling classes at Christopher, West
Valley and Villa Nueva facilities.

Musical Equipment
Upright piano/organ and other musical instruments NO

Sheet music, tapes, cds, records (ethnic/cultural/children's) NO

Computer
Software, all Microsoft titles, utility, desktop publishing, scheduling and
game software for day-to-day use by YWCA Administration and, YWCA
Educational/employment training programs and daycare children's use.
Especially non violent/educational children's programs and video editing
capabilities.

(5+) Pentium computers 200mz+ with cd drive needed for program
administration, graphics, desktop publishing and multitasking activities.

Toys
Stuffed animals, crayons and coloring books for children in the home-based
parent education program. This will allow the facilitators the parents
full attention.

Teddy Bears and Stuffed Animals to give to assault victims of all ages to
calm them during examination, statements, and court appearances.

Toys and games for children ranging from ages 6 weeks to 18 years. (Non
violent toys please)

All types of arts and crafts materials recycled items, (plastic bottles,
paper rolls, plastic lids) markers, crayons, pens, pencils, scrap non
hazardous manufacturing materials used for arts and crafts as well as
science exploration in our existing 9 daycare centers as well as the 2 new
centers opening this fall.

Food
Donations of coffee packets/juice/tea/sugar packets/creamer
packets/soda/snacks to allow refreshments to be served during classes and
workshops. Many of our participants are very low income and cannot afford
to purchase coffee or meals at local restaurants.

and children and teens participating in a wide variety of YWCA sponsored
homework and tutoring programs. (Backpacks, pens, pencils, crayons,
markers, copy paper, construction paper, binder paper, binders, scissors,
rulers, post-its, index cards, manila folders, hanging file folders,
day-timers, staplers, staples, paper clips, binder clips, tape, etc.)

Portable chalkboards/whiteboards, flip charts, static cling charts, easels,
file boxes, for workshops and classes on and offsite.

Folding and stacking chairs, desk chairs, small folding tables, a podium,
overhead projectors, microphone and speakers, slide projectors, file
cabinets, desks, and most other office furniture and equipment.

Patio furniture for the patios at Villa Nueva. Tables, umbrellas, sun
shades, chairs, picnic tables and benches to allow us to hold summer
classes, support groups and workshops on the patios.

Television/VCR and English as a Second Language videos for the residents of
Villa Nueva's low income housing community Resource Library to assist in
learning and understanding English for stronger growth towards
independence.

TV/VCRs, audio visual equipment, camcorder to develop video projects for
our programs.

Portable and wall mounted fans and air conditioners for our daycare
centers.

Swivel rocking chairs for the infant/toddler programs.

Bicycle racks for the Villa Nueva garage for staff and participants to bike
to the YWCA The YWCA encourages the use of public transportation and
bicycles by both employees and participants. With more and more teen and
school-age programs the need for more bike racks is increasing.

(20) Large coffee pots 20, 30, & 50 cup sizes for off-site parent education
classes and economic development workshops. Many participants are coming
to our workshops straight from work and many sites do not have restaurants
nearby.

Commercial coffee cart for serving coffee and refreshments on the patios or
in the lobby.

Popcorn machines large commercial and small household sizes.

participants each) for Teens, Women and Men every 10-16 weeks)

or churches) for transporting children and participants on field trips.

Truck new or in good condition - pickup or small moving van - for donation
pickups, deliveries to centers, and outreach.

An RV to be converted to a Mobile Counseling Office/Book mobile for
Outreach for New Options, Parent Education, Job Development and Rape
Crisis.

Bus tickets/passes for program participants and monthly passes for newly
employed teen and adult Job Club graduates. Many of our Job Club graduates
are very low income and may not be able to cover the bus fare while
attending Job Club or during their first month of employment while waiting
their first pay check.

Subsidies for child care for children of women in Job Club - the YWCA
serves 200-300 women reentering the workforce annually but has a limited
number of child care subsidies in our centers. Subsidies for our centers
or other daycare centers are always needed.

Subsidies for participants of parent education classes.

Sponsors and subsidies for all YWCA programs, enabling the YWCA to meet the
needs of more individuals and families.
