If you had to buy a pre-cooked turkey for Thanksgiving, on the Peninsula or
in the South Bay, where would you get it? I know that, as a last resort,
HoneyBaked does them..but if anybody has any other suggestions I'd really
like to hear them.

Thanks!

Whole Foods has a whole thanksgiving dinner deal for $99.99. Alas, I
don't know for how many or what it includes.

Does Oakville Market in Palo Alto sell cooked turkeys?
Good Luck,

This reminds me. A couple of years ago, after a posting on
this newsgroup, we went to Mz Kizzy's Fat Boy in Oakland.
(Sadly, now closed.) Great, great food, reasonable prices,
nice people. (Bad location, i.e., bring your body guard.)

They were advertising their Thanksgiving Special take out
dinner, coming up in a couple of weeks. We signed up.

The afternoon that we headed to a rented cabin in the Sierras
we stopped first at Mz Kizzy's and picked up the whole nine yards.
The next day we had the best Thanksgiving dinner that we have
ever bought.

Moral of the story for the original poster:
Check out small restaurants that serve good food
at reasonable prices.

Some research may be necessary. :)

If I was going that route I would look at a caterer rather
than a store. Susan Foord in Lafayette is selling Thsgvng
dinners. There must be a product like that in the S. Bay.
Again, good luck

I seem to remember someone saying a couple of years back that she got a
whole dinner at Draegers and it was wonderful. You might want to check
there.

Marina Deli (Foster City & Cupertino) does this each thanksgiving which
are pretty tasty but done in a slighty asian style, and the turkey is
usually smaller
than usual. Imagine a large chinese roast chicken. Need to reserve in
advance.

Based solely on the quality of their prepared chicken, I would give Draeger's
a try. But I have no actual experience with their Thanksgiving turkey.
Whatever the source, I'd suggest ordering very soon.

I think that Andronicos offers cooked Willie bird smoked turkey breast or
something like that.

I don't know why HoneyBaked is a last resort. Their smoked version is excellent.

We've bought cooked turkeys from Race St. Fish & Poultry. They are excellent.
You need to pick it up the day before Thanksgiving. If you request it, they
will even provide a container of "drippings".
