The SJ Merc just had a review of ABC Seafood in Foster City. Please
let's try not to turn this into an ABC/FOB/Asian/Oriental debate ;-}.
The reviewer gave this place 3 stars and compared it favorably to HKFL.
Can anyone substantiate these claims?
I haven't been to HKFL in years, but assuming HKFL is like Fook Yuen, I can say
that ABC does not compare favourably to it. ABC is a decent place (it compares
favourably against dimsum places in the South Bay), but it lacks that certain
finesse and style.
HKFL and Fook Yuen, while of comparable food-wise, are very different in
terms of atmosphere and service (at least comparing the newer HKFL on
Millbrae & El Camino). Fook Yuen used to be my favorite until I just
got tired of the crowds, uneven service, and airport terminal ambience.
Now, I regard ABC as a good alternative with their service, atmosphere,
(and prices) usually outweighing Fook Yuen, IMHO. (I should add that I
live in FC, so it's even harder to choose the extra drive to Fook Yuen
espec when I'll have to wait to get in too...)
I've been to both places on multiple occasions within the past year and I
would not personally rate ABC in the same category as HKFL. IMHO, the dim
sum at ABC is decent, and given that it is less expensive than HKFL, certainly
not bad for the price you pay. However, I find the dim sum at HKFL to be
on the whole on a higher level than ABC.

Did they move? I thought they were one of the best places around
for very fresh seafood.
