The owners are the kind of people who will not sell an item that
is not good enough for their own family.
Although it is a small store, it seems to always have exactly
what we need. Some of our favorites are:
fresh paneer
chapattis - like home-made. phone in your order 1 day in advance.
Darjeeling tea in the red can
The produce is very good, and reasonably priced.
(try the bhindi)
Gulab jamons and kaju barfi
Samosas - the best we have tasted in the bay area - not too oily
available only on the weekends.
Narayan's own brand of Hot Mix (pharasan).
fresh curry leaves
frozen fresh coconut
They have a small produce section with specialty Indian vegetables,
Also, we buy our Mangoes and tomatoes at Narayan, because the
quality is so consistently good.
Narayan is located at 2512 California Street, Mountain View.

From 101 take San Antonio West exit. Turn Left on
California. Turn into the small shopping center on your left
after you pass Safeway.
(You might find Mr. Thapar, how shall we say, opinionated,
but he is a thoughtful and intelligent person whose advice
you might find valuable.)
Alicia and Jitendra
They have a wide variety of pan dulce (my favorites
are the little gingerbread pigs (cochinitos, lechoncitos,
chanchitos -- whatever you call them, I can't keep them
out of my coffee) and other confectionary items, such
as membrillo and dulce de leche, as well as fresh
tortillas and an assortment of Mexican style fresh
cheeses.
!Buen probecho!

Just a couple points of clarification. The exit off 101 is actually labelled
San Antonio South, not West. Also, you cannot make a left onto California from
San Antonio South. You need to go past the intersection and make a U-turn.
