The place is busy: you will have to put up with that any time you find a
good dimsum joint. People start in about 11 and they are quickly
assigning reservation numbers, which are called out on an intercom
broadcsting outside the restaurant. Service is fast and well done - they
churn the traffic through the place very rapidly - just what one wants
for a typicaly weekday dimsum lunch. David has more little girls on the
floor hawking dishes than I've seen in a local restaurant, and you rarely
have to wait more than 5 minutes to get all the dishes you want. Ala
Carte orders off the menu are handled with speed and alacrity.
I think their quality of dimsum is equal to the best, and only exceeded
by the Geary Blvd Flower Lounge, more by variety than by individual
quality. Furama's sweet buns are unequalled anywhere. Prices are moderate.
I haven't eaten dinner there since Christmas, but I've always had good
dishes, well prepared.
IMHO the most important quality assurance factor is the partner/owners,
David and Daisy Tsang. David manages the house and Daisy has firm
control over the money. You'll find them always there and always keeping
things fine tuned. I have seen complaints on the net, and wish I could
have referred them to the management, who would be horrified to hear of
any ill treatment. I'm sure that anyone with a problem could have it
quickly rectified by David.
I doubt if they accept lunch reservations but they do during the evening
hours.
I have full confidence to recommend Furama for excellent dimsum. I have
no connection whatsoever with the restaurant or the owners, other than
having been a very satisfied customer for many years.
