We had dinner last night at a small bistro near Jack London Square.
The place is at Broadway @ third near the produce wharehouses.
It is styled as a french bistro with very nice, subdued decor,
pleasant and relaxed with a low noise level.
The service was very attentive without being intrusive (very
difficult especially as our waiter apologized for being short
staffed that evening)
The menu is typical california/french with some interesting
combinations.
For starters I had the crab cakes with greens, aoli, and
pear-pineapple salsa and my wife had mushroom soup.
The soup tasted strongly and pleasanntly of mushroom (no cambells
cream o' mush here), and the crabcakes were mostly crab with very
little filler.
For entrees, we had filet mignon of lamb and rib-eye with
stilton and pistacioes. Both very tender with excellent
sauces that complemented the meats rather than overpowering them.
Dessert was a pecan tart with white pepper ice-cream and a
chocolate torte with a mocha sauce. the torte was incredibley
rich and moist, while the pepper ice cream (very light pepper
flavor, I would have wanted it a bit stronger) was a nice
combination with the tart.
Overall, an excellent find well worth returning to.
