I am looking for a resteraunt that serves Southwest Indian cuisine.
Acorrding to a friend who is a native of that region, Southwest Indian
dishes use quite a lot of coconut and frequently envolve seafood. All
the Indian resteraunts he and I know about seem to fall into the
Northern or Southern Indian catagories. But given the great abundance
of resturants in the Bay Area, I holding out some hope that there is
such a place and one of you people know about it.

Somewhere near Santa Clara would be best but I don't expect mericles.
Anywhere in the Bay Area would be fine. Even places outside the Bay
Area would be of interest, albeit, of limited utility.

I don't think authentic Southwest cuisine typically involves seafood at all.

Just my opinion. Doesn't make sense,

I beg your pardon! The state of Kerala eats tons of seafood (it is the home of
the number 1/2 shrimp (one kilo each). Almost like lobster. Trivandrum and
Kovalum have wonderful seafood meals. Ohh, I see, you missed the word
"INDIAN". It doesn't refer to American Aborigines, you know.

Actually it does. I assume you understand that the original poster
(Eric) referred to Southwest Indian cuisine - that probably refers to
the cuisine from the regions of Kerala and Mangalore, both along the
Arabian Sea, and both of which use coconut extensively. Seafood is
featured in both cuisines, and especially so in Manglorean cooking.

Unfortunately, there are no restaurants in the Bay Area that
specifically cater to these cuisines, AFAIK. However, Keralite food may
be availabe in some of the 'South Indian' restaurants which are so
prolific in Santa Clara - Sneha, Pasand, etc. Swagath in Mountain View
carries 'avial' which is a coconut based Keralite dish, that is prepared
on request. You are best off calling ahead and checking tho'. And it
would help if you knew what to ask for...

Your best option is to become pally with somebody who comes from that
region and try to finagle an invite to his/her home! :-) Ethnic
cuisine is best sampled at home...

A thousand pardons I beg of thee... when I read Southwest Indian, I thought of
The Southwestern United States and American Indians.

Thanks for compassionately correcting me.

All I could think of was these great Navajo tacos I had while on the Hopi
reservation... and I forgot the name of the place but they were delicious. I
have the recipe somewhere around here.

Now, on to India Indian seafood. Sorry.
