I'm pretty sure they're long gone, but is there any chance there's one
remaining somewhere out there? Was this discussed not too long ago? I
have this vague memory of such a conversation.

Go to the one in Florence, Italy. It's way better :-).

(The Vivoli in Berkeley claimed, apparently fraudulently, that they
were a branch of the Florentine Vivoli, which makes the best ice cream
I've ever had.)

In article <48e0mk$7...@news.parc.xerox.com>,

Vivoli's in Berkeley! Whew. I really had to delve into the memory banks
for that one. Didn't it close around 1988-89? I don't know of any more, but
I do recall that the ice cream was good.

Sitting here with my son and his friend and wishing that we could bust on to Vivoli's for a little man-bashing and the tastiest gelato outside of Italy. Sigh.

I worked there around 1981 and we always laughed when straight people asked why a flavor with dark sweet cherries and chocolate curls was called Rubyfruit Jungle.

It must have been a big laugh when a lesbian asked that.
