Is this another merchant advertising scam?
Another Money making scheme?

I found there is NO consumer voice, feedback, rating what so ever in this
site.
This sound worse than BBB. BBB in the Santa Clara county was caught in money
making scheme on their so call rating system. At least BBB sometimes toke
consumer complaints and show it.

How could it be otherwise?

Low-rent "J.D. Power", as far as I can tell.

True, you must take their word on it. I suppose they are themselves
subject to the cumulative values of their own ratings, i.e. if they
"certify" companies with poor service, eventually nobody will take them
seriously. I'm not sure, without knowing any of the Bay Area businesses
they rate, whether they are worth taking seriously now, but YMMV. That
would be the minimum standard, for me -- that they had given
certification to a business I personally knew deserved it, or did not
deserve it, as the case may be.

Otherwise, chalk it up to advertorial.

I made a reservation for a motel for a business trip on short notice
through www.orbitz.com and paid $121.55 through their web site.
"Accidentally" the motel billed for me the night's stay as well.
What's interesting is that their rate was only $95 and change. I
guess Orbitz is pretty expensive!

In keeping with the tradition of naming units after the discoverers of

It could be that the motel lowered its rate that day if they had a lot
of vacancies.

But, usually, the local hotel tax is very high.
For example, in Silicon Valley both the City of Santa Clara and San Jose,
impose very substantial hotel usage tax at near 20+% so what Orbitz charges
may not be incorrect.

I don't get it: why wouldn't the motel charge me for the same tax?
Note that the Orbitz and motel charges were both items on my credit
card, so they were both all-inclusive.

In response to another poster, the motel was nearly booked. In fact
almost all the motels were fully booked due to a big 350th anniversary
parade and celebration in Northampton, MA, where I was staying.
That's why I was desperate enough to use Orbitz in the first place.

Who do you usually use to book hotel rooms? I've used other sites
and always gotten screwed over, but recently i started using Orbitz
and I've always had good luck with them. And are you saying that
Orbitz charged too much in taxes? or charged a different rate for the
room?

I got burn once at Double Tree.
I booked online and paid in full requesting two bed, non-smoking for two
adult men co-workers.
When we arrived, hotel reservation gave me ALL kind of delay and hassle end
up one king size bed in smoking room. Later, the next day, when we were
checking out and complained, the front desk lady told me they purposely want
guest to reserve room directly at their own web site. The hotel loss big
chunk of commission to these Orbitz / Travelocity/Hotel.com... etc. So you
will always get second class service.
