What ever happened to "Amy Airheart"...???

She had one of the most sweetest voices...

Weird Harold sometimes share the airwaves with me at KMUD-FM in
Humboldt

Terrylyn Thomas has returned to the Sandy Cruise area but as far as I
know is not doing radio...

I *think* Unkle Sherman is still at KPIG (if he's nor been fired
again) but KPIG is only a shadow of it's former self...

Laura Ellen (Hopper) left several years ago to go to the great
transmitter shack in the sky, as has Gordy & Buffalo Bob...

Last I heard, Sister Tiny was someplace in Nevada, after hanging out
with Travis T Hipp place for a while...

Dale Evans (Marty Manning) is working for Clear Channel in Arizona...

Jeremy Lansman is in Alaska at KYES-TV...

Wild Bill is in Paradise doing some kind of online radio...I don't
think they xmit on the air...

WHAT ABOUT THE OTHERS...???

Any sightings...??? Any Info...???

Arizona or New Mexico, I think. She was a guest MC at the Strawberry
Music festival last fall while Dallas Dobro was in the hospital getting
a body part fixed.

I ran into him at fatmusicradio.com a couple of months ago. Outside of
a few guest appearances on that internet stream I don't think he's doing
anything.

Yup. He's there. So is Cuzin Al. So is Ellie May.

It's at http://www.radioparadise.com and it's pretty cool. A fine mix
of music, and it's arguably the highest quality stream on the Internet.

Might this be the same Dallas Dobro who was in Hailey/Ketchum/Sun Valley in the late 70's, early 80's. Just wanted to send him well wishes. Still have great memories of him there....

I never cared for Country Noise, AKA Country "Music". However I did listen to KFAT for the Doctor Demento show (on Sunday nights?) once in a while.
One day while in Gilroy, I went into KFAT and asked them to play "My Name Is Larry". I had heard it on DD show. They said OK. For some reason I assumed they had it even though DD as syndicated. They didn't play it of course.

There are at least 10 different genres of "country" music. What's prevalent
today is called Nashville Sound, and I think it's an abomination. But there
are other forms which are great listens. Among my favorites are Wesetern
swing, Cajun, gospel, and honky-tonk.

It could well be that KFAT was like a lot of other "request" stations:
ignored. If the song comes up in rotation, fine; if not, they'll never play
it.

I don't think KFAT ever played My Name Is Larry. That song was on Dr. Demento's Funny 5 show. The DD F5 show was heard on KFAT (and maybe a few hundred other stations), and if/when DD played it, you'd hear it on KFAT. But I don't think KFAT even had the record (just a guess). I doubt it was ever heard on regular KFAT programing. But for some reason, the two people at KFAT when I went in, said they'd play it.

I agree some Country is real good. It's not all bad. Just like rock, you'll probably like some and not like some. But for the most part, Country music is annoying.

Whether or not the song was on their playlist, or even in their library,
they have no way of knowing if you or anyone else showing up at the
front door is a fan or a flake (or a sociopath). So of course they're
going to humor you to get you out of the building as quickly as possible.

Yes - one of the coolest guys I've ever met. Dallas is back in Idaho
right now and was supposed to be the MC at the Strawberry Music Festival
last weekend, but was unable to be there.

Oh - and Felton Pruitt is hanging out in the Sierras doing
fatmusicradio.com - a modern-day version of the old KFAT.

That's a stupid statement. You weren't there. There was nothing unusual or threatening about me and my brother. Just two normal looking kids, polite and sober. I don't like what you're implying was possible about their perception of me. People can use their own judgement. Common sense. By the way a person speaks, acts, and/or looks. If everyone thought like you, how'd we ever get anything done? Should all business humor people and get them out as soon as possible and not sell them anything? Maybe someday, that person they played a song for might become a good advertiser (customer).
I agree that they probably just wanted to get rid of me. But not for any of the reasons you're suggesting. They were just a little lazy and unfriendly. Busy hanging out. Didn't need us there. They just as quickly could have said "thanks for your interest, we don't have Dr Demeneto stuff".

Didn't mean to offend you, Larry, and it wasn't apparent from what you
wrote that you were a kid when this happened. (You wrote "KFAT", my mind
went to "KPIG", a station that's still around. KFAT is something like 30
years ago, so if I'd done some mental arithmetic, this happening when
you were a kid would've been more obvious.)

Still, in general, it's a different world today than it was when we were
younger and radio people were more open to visitors, hangers-on,
star-struck kids thinking about entering the business, etc. And there
are plenty of stories about media people being stalked and worse. (If
you don't believe me, Google the name "Rebecca Shaeffer". Or "Alan
Berg." Or "John Lennon". Or "John Hinckley and Jodi Foster".) Even in
the time you're describing, radio (and TV) people had cause to watch
their backs.

When I was a kid of between ages 9 and 14 I coaxed my parents into visiting
various stations. This was easy for my mom, who had been a bit player in
many KFRC/Don Lee soap operas, etc. She loved radio.

We visited KEEN, KNTV, KDAC in Fort Bragg, KOFY (where I later worked
briefly), KEWB, etc. Later at about age 18 I visited KMPX by myself and
hung out a lot there. Also, I bicycled to the KFAX transmitter site in
Hayward and watched the board op play the religious programs, promos, etc.

But THEN, I visited KBRG (now KITS) by myself. It was a Spanish language
contemporary format at the time. The DJ welcomed me, but the assistant
manager was VERY pissed off that I was there. I explained that I liked to
visit radio and TV stations and that I was going to enroll at College of San
Mateo and take up broadcasting.

This did not impress her. She told me more or less, "This is not a museum.
We are here to work. I don't know why you think you can just come here and
look at us. " The place at the time was very cluttered, a wiring mess.
About a month later the studio caught fire and one of the staff people was
either injured or died, I forget.

But I took that dressing-down to heart. Radio and TV stations are
businesses like any other, not museums, and people are there to work.

The only other station I ever went to (uninvited) was KOME. I must have been about 16-17. Maybe in 1978. They were very friendly. I'm a guy, it's not like I was a hot chick where of course they'd be friendly. They gave us a few stickers. KOME stickers were very popular back then.
We get customers and non paying visitors where I work. We enjoy talking to both.

Was that the station in the Franklin Mall in Santa Clara? I vaguely remember
a radio station there, near the post office.

As far as your bad experience, unless you said "Me gusto Radio Espanol" or
some such, she probably thought you were not a listener who deserved royal
treatment.

No, at that time KBRG was located at 50 Geary Street in SF. Today it is
KITS.

No, the woman probably didn't even speak Spanish. KBRG was owned by
Entercomm at the time and as near as I can tell looking back she was
probably brought in from another station to sub for the manager while s/he
was on vacation. The DJ obviously didn't like her and said to me in a quiet
voice, "She's the boss for now, so I've got to do what she says and ask you
to leave."

He's on Facebook, but I've never asked him how he kissed off Alaska
and broadcasting to wind up in a town on the western side of South
Africa near Cape Town. Always a very interesting person is Jeremy.

Unless they're musicians or broadcasters; then they move to where the action
is, relationship be damned. I've always told women who fall in love with
male musicians that they will always be second to their spouse's love of
music. They don't believe me, but it happens time and again that the guy
will move to be near his music.

And we all know broadcasters who have moved from place to place to stay in
the business. Maybe Jeremy moved to the RSA due to some radio or TV thing
and then got out of the business. It may be temporary, who knows?

Did that once. The "significant other" turned out to be a
"significant don't bother" in very short order. Moved Back. Never
