"The open letter from longtime Consumer Electronics Association chief
Gary Shapiro is a sermon about the free market – and an invitation for
NAB boss Gordon Smith to come visit the Consumer Electronics Show in
January to “explore the next generation of devices enabling consumers
to access local broadcast content.” Shapiro says “in touring the show
floor, I think you will find that the free-market – not government
mandates – holds the best hope for ensuring that our industries
continue to innovate and thrive.” Shapiro almost sounds annoyed that
the CEA is being dragged into the fight between the NAB and the music
industry. But since it is – “we assure you that your strategy of using
us to kill this [performance royalty] legislation is failing.” He says
“we have yet to identify one member of Congress willing to support
your attempt to impose old FM technology [ouch] on new portable
products.” He calls radio a “legacy horse and buggy industry” trying
to “preserve its former monopoly.” Shapiro takes a harsh approach
toward the royalty – he thinks broadcast radio should be paying "the
same as that assessed to online music streaming services and other new
technologies." But Shapiro’s not closing the door. He says “We are
happy to work with you [on] promoting FM and HD Radio in the
marketplace." Read Shapiro’s letter here. "

The NAB caved to musicFIRST to get FM/HD chips mandated onto cell
phones. These bottom-feeders are investors in iBiquity, and will do
anything to get a fraudulent iBiquity IPO. Too bad, the CTIA, CEA,
musicFIRST, and Congress are against any such mandates - too bad, Bob
"The Fraud" Struble - LMFAO!!! One radio group has jsut pulled out of
