A friend who speaks no Spanish left his HD radio on a Spanish
language station for 2 says while out of town. The next week he started
getting ads in the US mail in Spanish. He has never gotten this type of
stuff before. Not only will I not get HD. I sure won't get satellite
radio when they can most likely not only know what you listed to and
when bus also where. Might be fun though to change stations every few
seconds and see how their computer handles that.

How amazing! In a market that is 21% Hispanic, the chances of occasionally
getting some Spanish mailings is pretty high, especially if there is a
significant percentage of Hispanics in the particular ZIP code or area.

When I lived in a black zip code (the Western Addition on Alamo
Square) I got a lot of mail from mail order preachers, home loan
hucksters, and black-oriented grooming products. I even once got a
sample of a product similar to Afrosheen.

When I lived in the Mission, I didn't get regular junk mail in
Spanish, but I did get political campaign pamphlets in Spanish.

I think Chuckie or Mel or whoever is just delusional.

Recently a friend with HD in his car had lunch at a Holiday Inn and
paid cash. A week later he got mail inviting him to get their rewards card.

I don't know how that happened, but I did _stay_ in a Holiday Inn Express.

It reminds me of a time I went to Reno for a weekend. I made a
reservation a few weeks ahead if time and a week before my trip I got an
invitation for a free night at a time share near Reno. I decided that
rather than leave early in the morning ( I always liked to get up there
for betting the east coast baseball games) I could be well rested and
put up with the time share selling. I stayed, had dinner ans somehow
managed to resist the high pressure (as a last resort the gut told me he
would lose his join without a sale and assured me that even if I signed
I had three days to back out).
Si months later I reserved a room at the same hotel. A week later got
another invite from the time share people. I figured someone at the
hotel was selling names to the time share outfit. When I arrived I
mentioned it to the desk clerk who assured me it was coincidence.

Right now I'm listening to an HD/IBOC in my auto at the Jackson

should be getting a hotel radio guide shortly!

The last two elections, I have had to specifically request English

I listen to HD radio at home. A couple of days ago while I was at work a
friend called asking me about HD radio.. I told him that HD radio isn't as
good as they say.

WITHIN FOUR HOURS, someone tried to steal my motorcycle, parked at the house
where my HD radio is. Coincidence???

My Internet connectivity has been mostly down this week...right after a
week of intense bad-mouthing of HD on this newsgroup.

Coincidence?

(In the past, I would have attributed it to the fact that you can't get
decent Internet service in Silicon Valley!)

I was reading a news story about the 49ers yesterday. A few hours
later I got a call from them asking if I was interested in season tickets.

Last week I had dinner with friends and made some anti-Bush comments.
A few day later I got a fund raising solicitation from the DNC.

Obviously nothing can be kept private.

P.S. If you can not beat them, join them. I am now utilizing their
tactics. I am doing some cold calling this morning. Just called a
company to ask if they were happy with their current system, In fact,
they are actively looking for a replacement. They think my call was a
coincidence but we know otherwise.

Certainly not. It's probably IBOC hash interfering with your wireless link.

Lucky you. And I run all of my own servers (DNS, SMTP, NNTP, and even
some HTTP). When the connection goes down, my domains (and a lot of
others including some radio stations) disappear.

The problem was an upstream DS3 that (the new) AT&T couldn't figure out
how to fix so that it would stay fixed. I've already taken steps...but
this *is* Silicon Valley, where connectivity sucks.

Heh. I finally had it with PacBell's legacy network and 330 kbs DSL,
and attached myself to Comcast and 6 Mbps. The PacBell setup
would go down every time it rained, and their team would dutifully
come over a day or two later and rewind duct tape around
their less-than-waterproof spliced connection. Quack.
Quack.

For the home service (I'm also adding business lines), I do have a
dynamic IPA which I didn't have with PacBel, but then I'm not paying an
arm and a leg for it either. Comcast's static IPA deal on business
accounts starting at $150/mo is pretty competitive with the phone
company's T-1 lines. Am bringing one into my own Web server in
the City as an experiment.
