I have one of these Kryptonite locks that I just heard you can pick with a
bic pen!!!

What can I do with this? Does anyone know some hack you can do to it to make
it safe?

TIA, jw

=v= To make it safe? If it's a U-lock, it hasn't been safe for
years, as thieves have a number of ways to break them (though
none quite as handy as a Bic pen).

=v= If it's a "New York Chain," you can replace the mini-U-lock
with something more substantial, such as an American Lock or a
Mul-T-Lock:

(This is what New Yorkers have done for years.)

Kryptonite is offering free upgrades for some of the defective locks. See

It's good to see that. It might save their company even if it really
hurts in the short-term. A round keyhole is no way to protect cheap
tumblers that so easily jam in their unlocked position. The tumblers
should jam in incorrect positions enough that picking the lock takes an
uncomfortable amount of time for a thief.

There are some catches, however. Only certain lock models are covered, and
only locks bought within the last 2 years (and you must have the receipt).

The web says they will replace with new "disc-style". Any idea which product
this is on their web? I looked at all the bike locks but nothing was
obvious.
