Hi folks,

Much work has been done over the past month to help assure that bicyclists
have the right to ride as a group in Sacramento.

One big piece of news is that BCLU has secured an attorney who is
interested in filing a claim against the Sacramento Police Department.
We are in the evidence gathering stages.

The next monthly community bicycle ride is this Friday, October 5,
following the rally from 5-6 PM at the North Capitol Steps. It is
important that in the State Capitol, if no where else in California,
people be able to ride their bicycles free from harassment and duress!

Because it will be growing darker earlier, and because our goal is to
ensure that riders know their legal rights and abide by them for a
peaceful, positive, legal ride, BCLU is acquiring 50 bicycle lights for
participants. We will be asking a donation for these lights, which we had
to purchase.

One good piece of news is that at least some of those who were falsely
cited last month have received letters from the City Attorney which
evidently say that no charges will be filed in the citation addressed, and
that there is no need to appear.

The woman who was forcefully arrested now faces no criminal misdemeanor
charges due to "lack of evidence".

An article is set to appear in the Sacramento News and Review tomorrow.

For more information and many photos of what happened last month, please
check the web pages at http://www.bclu.org/

Please come out this Friday and stand up for your right to ride a bicycle
or simply walk safely and legally in the state of California.

If you know people who would like to join in the Bay Area, please put them
in touch with us. The main group will meet at 1:30 PM at the Emryville
Amtrak station. Directions are also on our website.

Sincerely,
