As you saw from Erin’s post to these groups Tuesday, we’re excited to announce the initiation of the Digital Credentialing work with IMS Global. (Here’s a link to the announcement.)

Why this makes sense
IMS is a nonprofit organization that brings a lot to the table for open badges. For those of you new to IMS, here’s a little more about them. As an established nonprofit organization that collaboratively advances technology to help improve educational participation and attainment through interoperability and adoption initiatives, IMS makes sense as the next stage in the evolutionary growth of the open badges work.

How this relates to you
Of particular interest to WG members is IMS's focus on innovative technology related to standards in education, institutions, or workforce. That’s us, the people on these mailing lists! You and me! This new alliance presents another opportunity to dive more deeply into the things we care most about.

What are the next steps?
The initial aim of IMS Digital Credentialing is to further investigate and expand the reach, adoption and value of open badges in several possible ways, including: badge integration in the IMS eT work already underway, Open Badges Standard extension work, and exploration of new models of badge system design, storage, usage, or evaluation. Open badges have a lot of room to grow and all of these possibilities need to be explored and developed with your participation.

How to connect
Consider this your personal invitation to join the IMS digital credentialing work to further explore the possibilities of open badges. Please contact us for more information and to set up a call about how we can continue to work together to develop and scale open badges.

Thanks!
Carla
