Thanks Sheryl for being all over this week's call. I thought my flight would have landed and I'd be able to drop in, but things got slow. Good progress, and congratulations to Chris Gamrat for gaining publication of his paper on Teacher Learning Journeys.

I'll be digging out from under my post-vacation backlog.

In news from European badgers, the Open Badges in Education workshop at ICWL was good. Mostly reports on small-scale badge programs instituted in more-or-less open higher ed settings. The organizers are likely to be available to report to this community (either through our call or the wednesday Project Call) soon. In addition, they've started a mailing list for "open badges in education" to continue sharing after the event, and we hope to better connect communities for working with and studying badges.

This group would be good to collect survey responses from, as soon as it's ready to send out.

More details later,

Nate

Hi Nate,

Hope you had a wonderful, well-deserved vacation. :)

Curious to learn more about Open Badges in Education workshop at ICWL. Do you think that group would have some overlap with the existing HE WG?

Sunny

Hi, Sunny

Indeed one of the things I was trying to do while there was to encourage greater involvement across the Atlantic between those interested in badges. The group who attended plans to keep in contact over the coming year, and some were interested in getting closer to our more North America-based community.

I'm not actually on the HE WG, and I'm not sure exactly what the focus of their discussions have been. The OBiE workshop did feature presentations that were connected to higher education efforts, though often in open and/or blog based (i.e. connectivist) courses. Many attendees would likely be interested in promoting badges in higher ed and discussing challenges and opportunities in that space, perhaps with the BA.

I did just send a message to all the participants to invite them generally to participate in the Badge Alliance community, with specific mention of the Research WG and wider community Project Call. Vladan Devedzic and Jelena Jovanovic, the organizers of the workshop expressed interest in discussing the outcomes of the workshop with other badge communities. In addition, they've started a mailing list for the Open Badges in Education group that is open to all. See info here: https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/open-badges-in-education

Thanks for the clarification Nate.

I think there might be overlap between groups so I think it might be worthwhile for the HE folks to reach out. I'll inform them of this newly formed group.

Sunny
