Hi folks,

Apologies for cross-posting -- we wanted to make sure everyone got this exciting news:

On Wednesday's Community Call (http://bit.ly/CCSept10) Kerri Lemoie, chair of the Directory Working Group, announced the launch of the Open Badges Directory!

What is the Open Badges Directory?

It is a tool that makes it possible for learners and other organizations to find and connect to programs that are issuing badges. It’s the connection and potential pathway generator for learning opportunities that happen anywhere at anytime. It’s a search engine for Open Badges.

This is the Directory info: http://directory.openbadges.org

Here are a couple of examples of its API in use:

ISSUERS: Register your badges with the Directory

So how does the Directory know about badges? Issuers host a url that lists their badge classes.

Register that url here: http://mozilla.github.io/openbadges-directory/#addbadges

Once registered, the directory hits every badge class and stores the badge and issuer information.  Every 24 hours the directory checks that url again to find any new or removed badges and updates the information.

How do I people find and connect badges in the Directory?

There’s an API! Read about how to do that here: http://mozilla.github.io/openbadges-directory/directory-api

There’s also an API explorer: http://directory.openbadges.org/developers/api-explorer#!/search/search

The Directory prototype is live. This isn’t experimental. It is a living project but it is at an early stage. Help get it to the next phase by registering your badges and using the API. You can also join the Directory Working Group (http://bit.ly/BA-Directory-WG).

A summary and link to the recording of Wednesday's call can be found on the Open Badges blog.

For any assistance with registering your badges or using the api or if you have feedback/questions contact Kerri and the rest of the Directory team at director...@badgealliance.org or through any of the Open Badges channels (including the Google groups).

Go Badges! A huge thanks to Kerri and the Badge Alliance Directory Working Group for your efforts to put this together :)
