A participant asked "is it mandatory that
standards must exist to do the BIG 6 or can BIG 6 work without standards?"
I replied that Mike and I have been "doing" the Big6 since long before the standards movement. We emphasize the standards because so many schools and districts are currently standards-driven, but the Big6 is an information problem-solving process that applies (works) whenever anyone has a question or problem that requires information to answer or solve.
However, if you are in a situation where standards are not considered to be important, it's still necessary to establish goals and objectives for your Big6 by the Month program.
