WAPI Seattle: Katalyst Fall Youth Hip Hop Classes start Tues Oct. 19th and Thurs Oct. 21st, 2010

Free after school programs for youth, ages 15-19, with a newly added second level class for students 21 and under! Each program is 3 months long. WAPI Seattle is conveniently located at 606 S. Maynard St. #108, in the International District. Bus passes are available to students.
Weekly classes begin on:
-Tues, 10/19, 5-7:30pm: Urban Arts class
Learn classic and graffiti inspired art techniques. Taught by Khazm and Zelot.
-Thurs, 10/21, 5-7:30pm: Katalyst music program
Learn how to emcee, record, make tracks w/Mic Flont and Gabriel Teodros.
-Tues, 10/19, 4-5pm: 2nd year Urban Arts/Music class
Must be approved by current instructors. Learn the legal, business and marketing aspects of the music, art and design industries and how to succeed in today’s world. Taught by WAPI Director, Greg Garcia.
Katalyst
The Katalyst Project is WAPI Seattle's hip hop educational program. Geared towards teen youth of color, WAPI provides free after-school graffiti and audio recording classes taught by local Seattle teaching artists, as well as youth Leadership Council opportunities.
How It Works
The Katalyst program, coordinated by DJ B-Girl of B-Girl Media, is a 3-month series of weekly workshops in graffiti and music. Youth in the music classes, led by Mic Flont of Think Tank Productions and Gabriel Teodros of Air 2 A Bird, get hands on experience working with Macintosh computers, Pro-Tools software, and industry standard audio recording equipment. Youth taking the graffiti classes, led by King Khazm of 206 Zulu and Maya aka Zelot, explore urban art design, composition and various techniques. Both classes include 1 field trip and culminate in a final project that is presented as a youth organized, all-ages show at the end of the session.
