Hi

We all struggled to learn how to say Zubenelgenubi and Zubeneschamali.
It became simpler when I learned that "Zuben" is actually "Zuban" ==
mouth (as used in Hindi). (Since most star names are Arabic, an
average Hindi speaker can make some sense of them at times).

Anyway, I was trying to find out the most unpronounceable common name
for a star. The best I came across, on Wikipedia, is for zeta Tauri,
which many of us use to locate Crab Nebula:

"Shurnarkabtishashutu"

Any information on how to pronounce it and where exactly it comes from
will be appreciated. (Wikipedia says it's Arabic, but a cursory
internet search tells me it's Babylonian; it doesn't really sound
Arabic, does it?).

Regards

See this is why we have the numbering system, and that makes so much
sense. But I wonder if learning the star names themselves have any
productive utility, of course apart from the forthwith geek quotient in
itself.

Also I have never experimented with using the sanskrit names while
introducing stars, I am pretty sure public would not distinguish here :P

Arabic names are not that difficult to learn. Especially if one splits the words. Zuben El Zenubi, Al Deberan, Al Nitak etc,. But let me check the root of the Tauri star.
