Hi,

I have a binoculars which was gifted to me by my uncle who was into bird watching.
It says `Rongda` and the following details are imprinted:
60X120
Multi-Coated optics
52M/1000M

It has a bright red coating in the objective and I was wondering whether it was a toy. But to my pleasant surprise the performance was really good especially after Balaji collimated it for me.

How do I find out the specs of this binoculars? The objective is 80mm dia as per my measurement. How do I figure out the magnification of this instrument? And what does the specs printed on the instrument mean?

Regards,
Arun

60 should be the magnification 120 the objective diameter.

Red coating is a sure indication that it is a low value item.

I thought so too, but the objective dia. is 80mm by measurement.
Also, the magnification is surely not 60x. Orion nebula (shows brilliantly) along with the two other stars in Orions's dagger cover only 80% of the field.

Red coating is a sure indication that it is a low value item.

Same feeling here, but was really surprised at the image quality produced. Stars are beautiful pin points across the field.

Arun
