Hi all,

Ever since we have shifted to this village in Kalvarayan hills near salem, we have been treated to some great star watching on and off. We are pretty amateurs but awestruck with the fantastic display.
We have a 7X35 Nikon and could get a glimpse of many clusters. Of late we have been watching the planets Venus, Mars, and Jupiter. Tried to take some pictures too with our Canon EOS550. Attaching some of them with this mail.
If anyone of you, the big dadas, could visit our place with your better gizmos, we promise you the sky:-)
we will also be grateful for any feedback and advice on the photos.

Regards
Rama and Rams.

Wow!

Beautiful photo of Sagittarius region. The light pollution indeed is
very low, as I can infer from the photograph! You're lucky!

If you have Photoshop or GIMP (which are image processing programs;
GIMP is freely downloadable from the internet), you can use a tool
called "Curves" and pull out the Milky Way, which is somewhat hidden
in your Sagittarius picture.

I know how to do this with GIMP. Install GIMP. Then open the image
with GIMP, and then select "Curves" in the Colors menu. (If you can't
find a menu item called colors, you'll find it under Layers. This is
the case with older versions). It'll show you a straight line. Just
drag it up to get a curve that rises rapidly, and you'll see the
difference!

Akarsh

Oh now i see a lone road going up to karumandurai from salem. this
must be a dark sky location (as gleaned from NOAA/NGDC map). how
lucky. is there a suitable place for stay and observations around
karumandurai.
