Just a request if this is in between BLR & Chennai - it would be great!

Nevertheless we would travel to any site - based on judgement of visibility ...

In all probability (depending on acquisition of permission) I would be heading out with a friend or two, to the pristine Kudremukh, at the Bhagvathi Nature Camp (forest guest house) on the New Moon of 21st weekend.

It is a direly awaited location, ever since my last trip in September 2010. I have been wanting to test the skies from there, which I guess should be indeed very dark, since this then was a zero light environment. Read my elaborate description of the place in an earlier report; just search by name in archive.

Best of luck to all. Hope you have a great time and clear skies ahead. Hope to also see some new faces, in both participants and volunteers.

I think some brief details are required to make a decision.

Venue and duration are essential. Rest can follow.

Most of our observing locations have been 4 to 6 hours away from Bangalore.

This is about a different star party. Apparently, the venue is still
to be decided. I'm guessing it will be one of Coorg, Kanakapura,
Kavalur, Yelagiri.

My guess would have been the same. But asking for registrations without
giving basic details is grossly unfair.

Hi Rasik and all.,
Sorry for being unfair here, but our motto was to give sufficient advance notice to participants.

It was my suggestion to post the "place holder" announcement to the group so that the participants can plan their weekend accordingly. and a 2-3 weeks notice would be better than posting later. In fact this place holder announcement has already fetched >45 registrations ! and now we are move the new registrations to waiting list. Thus, it helped in two ways, 1) organizers get the information on how many can be expected and should be negotiated. 2) sufficient time for participants to plan over.

We are working on the location, the stay and transportation. Vivek is on this activity and we will announce the complete plan and details soon.

Please give us some time, for those who would be looking upto what this star party would be and how much it would cost approx. please visit BAS site www.bas.org.in and look for past events.

Thanks,

The reason that I said so was that we should know whether it was one 2-day event or 2 1-day events. Also location would have helped determine who came and who did not.

I have some newbies who would have been interested in an event where one could go easily by own vehicle but not otherwise. And basically in a 1-day event. However this is only academic since you say the places are already filled up.

I could have booked 6 places and then cancelled, but I did not think this would have been fair.

Hi Rasik, & Gayathri,

Sorry again. I completely agree with your thoughts.

this is like pre-launch, and only a place holder registration and not confirmed. hence we know there will be 30%-40% drop out. so don't worry and go ahead with registration. Participants will be confirmed only after the final announcement and payment done. based on the first come first serve basis, and those registered to placeholder announcement will get priority during final registration.  I spoke to Vivek on the same and he will finalize the place and other details by end of this week.

We (& you) only worry if you cancel after the final registration & payment is done.

Please do suggest if you think we can improve this process. ( this is the first time we are trying this method and we appreciate your feedback )

Thanks,
Naveen Nanjundappa

Hi Naveen,

It would be good to provide another option to tell how many people are willing to join.
I can just give the count instead of registering my family or friends separately!

Thanks,
Sunil.

Accepted Sunil :) next time, we will keep this in account.

Infact we know a few people who have registered single, but implied that they are travelling/registering with family.
Please don't consider your registration to place holder as "confirmed" for star party. but you only get a priority.

If place holder announcements are confusing we will try to avoid them in future. let us know what you think.

Thanks
Naveen

Hi, guys...

I have already regd. for the star party on Jan 21st...
Can you pls tell the venue...

My parents are pestering me since time immemorial to inform them about
the venue and are expressing apprehensions about the star party's
validity due to the myriad circumstances with which the whole job is
done...

It is not wrong, but people with different sociological scenarios may
find the situation precarious....

Hi,

We apologize for the delay in announcements regarding this Star party.
We have finalized the venue to be Agumbe. We will be visiting a home-
stay near Agumbe for the event.

The plan is leave Bangalore on Friday night (20th night) and reach the
venue by Saturday morning. We plan to have a short trek during the day,
a visit to a waterfall perhaps and then (of-course) spend the night
observing. We will leave the venue on Sunday morning and travel via
Sringeri. We may be doing some local sightseeing (if people are want
to ! ) and then reach Bangalore by 9 pm on Sunday.

The registrations are open and you can complete all formalities and
confirm your seats now.As always, we have a limit on the number of
people we can accommodate...so please do hurry up and block your
seats!

Star party folks, there is a good news, a sudden turn of events from my side.

I would be getting my SBIG CCD to the star party!

Very grateful to a new member Aditya Ravi here, who is lending his brand new 8" f/5 Sky-Watcher on EQ6 Pro mount, just received 3-4 days ago, from C-Sky. Unfortunately he is unavailable to join us to witness its first light from such a pristine location.

Earlier, I had reserved 2 nights to Kudremukh, on Friday and Saturday nights for visual with my 25x100, and was not going to be available for the star party. It so happens the star party venue fortunately turned out to be Agumbe, and Kudremukh is just 70km from here! Well, I have decided to cut down one night at Kudremukh.

This is going to be one of its kind star party, with a great load of equipment collection; a new GOTO scope, the CCD, my 25x100, apart the Monster and other imaging and visual equipment that would come. And its a huge turnout !

The skies should really favour us. Hoping for the best.
