Hi Ravi, Are you going on Saturday or along with me on Monday? We missed it last Monday. Anyone else joining, please call me after 9 am (I will reach home before that) and confirm before 1pm. I would be leaving by bus by 2pm (an arduous 4-hour journey!). Moon sets by 12:30 am, we get all the globulars and opens plus some late galaxies, if skies completely clear out.

Get just back-up winterwear and binocs, if you have.

LOL...Ditched seems to be the most inapproriate word when it comes to me and observing sessions..plz ask the old BAS folks. ;-)

'Unforseen circumstances' could be the right word. I am here for a cause. The Dept of Science & Technology in association with the Vigyan Prasar and Chennai Periyar Science Center have conducted a resource training program for the TSE-2009 and I have been nominated by my friend Raghunandan Kumar from Planetary Society, Hyd'bad to represent Andhra State Council of S&T for this event.

Are these details enough to resolve why we could not go for observing last time? Sessions resume once I am back. :-)

Hi Amar. I think i'll be coming along with you on Monday. Cause i still haven't received a call from Parag. I think its too late now to go today. I'll come on Monday. No problems rite?? When are you getting back home?? I'll call you and confirm.

:-)... That was just to increase the senti quotient of that mail. I knew the reasons for you 'ditching' :P. And the senti kind of worked I believe. I am finally not able to go on today's observation session though. Might join you on Monday. The program on TSE-2009 sounds good. Hope it is useful to you and all the participants.

This Thursday night, the sky was quite clear and for the first time me and my friend observed some things other than stars and constellations. After having joined BAS group and seeing that you guys looking at all those deep sky objects I was determined to do the same myself. And that night turned out to be a great night for that. All the observations we made were using a Nikon 10x50 6.5 degree binocs.  We started with Omega Centauri Globular cluster, saw Lagoon Nebula, The we went on to observe Jupiter. We noticed three tiny dots in a straight line from Jupiter, very close to it, the innermost one almost touching Jupiter. The middle dot was brightest of the three and the outer dot was the faintest. We think that the middle and the inner dots were Jupiter's moons Ganymede and Callisto respectively. And the outer dot, which was the fainest was Neptune. Can someone put some more light on this?

And finally we also saw Andromeda Galaxy :-).

Hi all,
Yesterday we went to hosahalli. we were 3 people Rakesh, me and Sudheer. Sky was not that great for whole night. Still got very good view of scorpious and saggiterius for around 1/2 hour at around 1.30am. Then at around 3am got to see north sky, zenith and some part of north west sky for around 1 hour.
Unfortunately couldnt find the eyepiece holder and eye pieces :(...so we didnt moved telescope to the ground....managed to see some messeires by rakesh's binoc.....anywas throught the night, sky was clearing for just 5 mins interval in some patches......setting telescope towards any object wouldn't be of any use, except in those couple of long clear sky intervals.....(sour grapes....:P :D)

Would like to note one observation: We did saw around 10-12 meteors in interval of 1 hour....most of them were originating from area in vicinity of delphinus. I think only 1-2 were sphoradic.

@ravi: I am sorry i didnt received ur contact no. by sunday morning also...so couldnt contact you. I think its good that amar is going on monday to hosahalli so u could join him....infact yesterday it was not at all good time for observation. Hope u will get good skies on monday and ofcourse u have expert guide too :)....so i dont think u have missed much.

@akarsh: yes...atlast we couldnt find the eyepieces...:( :( :(

That's really unfortunate. Next time, please remember to carry your
own eyepieces and focuser. :)
