I too would be returning back to B'lore tomorrow (after a 2 month long stay in Mumbai). I am getting the 25x100's extra large binocs along with the hassles of the mount single-handedly from here! So that we can use it right away (and I will keep it at Hosahalli itself).

If we manage our own transport, it will be easy. Additionally, if people are willing and do not want to return home early next day, we can probably drive down the scenic Madhugiri-Gauribidanur road (via the IIA Radio Observatory), for possible observing sites. Expect a total of 200+ km drive to and from our homes.

BTW most important question..how are skies there recently? Here they are super clear since Diwali ended, literally except for the ONLY 2 days I went for observing. :)

Nice idea.
If we have enough people (atleast 5), then probably i can arrange a vehicle (sumo/qualis). I know a travel agent and can talk with him.

There are 2 problems/hurdles (may be only to me):

1) I prefer leaving blr on Friday and come back on Saturday. Leaving blr on saturday may not be possible to me.

2) I cant make it to leave bangalore early. I have seen earlier that, members used to leave around 2pm or 4pm! Anytime after 6 or 7pm will be fine with me. If we have own vehicle, then we could reach there bit early (But may lose few hours of night sky if we reach there by 9 or 10pm).

I have to come back to blr on saturday by around 2pm. So within that time can we visit Radio Observatory? I hope we need permission to enter it. Can we get it?

Let me know your opinions and any other plan if you have. This time i m eager to attend.

I dont have any equipment. So will be completely depending on you ppl :-).

We _plan_ to leave by 2 PM ;-). It happens very few times.

Might or might not be feasible. We could plan a radio observatory trip
separately. But if it works out, we could of course do this, and get
back by 2 PM.

No problems.

Hi all

The moon would be setting at about 1 am in the morning so we get quality observation time of about 4 hours.

Let us all plan to reach the place latest by 10 so we could set up have an initial intro and then start our observations.

People who will be coming please list your equipment so it would help us work out the logistics

Hi Rakesh,

Is the date decided? Will it be Saturday evening?
If so, my state is 60-40 (60% will join).

Name: Sunil.
Place: JPNagar 4th phase.
Vehicle: None.

At what time we may start?

Requesting the co-ordinator to think on visiting the radio-observatory as well. Looks like more people will be attending this time (many first timers including me). And many will be interested to visit that place as well :-). It is OK to reach bangalore by noon/evening on Sunday.

Anyone who willing to start around 7PM that day? Pls reply only to me (to avoid flooding of mails to the group).

- Sunil.

Dear All,
Please note, Gauribidnur Radio Observatory will not let you inside, unless you have permission to visit.
So if you are really interested we will have to take permission to visit before friday !

Thanks,

There is lot of confusion going on regarding Saturday and Friday. Please come to a consensus soon. Who all for Fri and who for Sat? We would have to arrange a transport considering we have some new participants, and the crowd could be big this time. I am also transporting my binocular mount with various parts (I just landed to B'lore today and managed to get it alone) so would need some help.

Moon sets after midnight, which still means we have to reach the venue on time. We cannot knock anyone's door there after 10 pm. We can as well settle early and get to an intro session or an informal talk. Equipments are best set before sunset.

Pavan has rightly said I could have made it both days, however (seeing today's exceptional clear skies) I am going tomorrow alone (!!) :) even though it is not possible for them, and I had been informed there is some function at Hosahalli school. My obs would begin only around midnight. So for me, next, it would only be on Sat.

@ Akarsh please call me *asap* and let me know if you can join me tomm, I would need your presence.

It will be VERY cold there and dew settling will make matters worse, since it is December. Please get *additional* winterwear, and let it even lie there unused. It is better than having you shiver and teeth chatter and helplessly look around for winter wear you can use. Today there was excessive dew, more than other times I have seen!

If we plan to stay back and drive through the arid wilderness of Gauribidanur, please load your cameras, since there landscapes there and variety of birds will leave behind a *memorable* experience, I assure you.

So whats the actual plan for tomorrow?! How many cars do we have, how many people? Please call me on 9343518916 for any queries. I wish to leave by 2pm, and would really need a car for the binoc mount. The more people, the more vehicles to transport everyone together, the better, since this big star party under such clear skies is coming after a *really* long time.

Well, that is flexible. AFAIK, most of us will return directly toB

Hi Satya,

Take a look at this:
http://docs.google.com/Doc?id=dccv2xch_30f5sbm3gw&hl=en

There are 5 people requiring transport as of now.

If Mr. Madhu and Mr. Shubhankar will be joining us, then this will go
up to 7. Out of this, Pavan will be travelling with Ravindra, I
suppose. So we have 6 people who need travel arrangements.

If _everyone_ confirms the above statements, then I can organize a
6-seater hired vehicle for transport. Can everyone confirm?

Else, I will be organizing a 4-seater transport (maybe an Indica)

I will be organizing a hired transport, probably an Indica. Depending
on what Amar says, either it will start from his place [J P Nagar?],
or from my place [RT Nagar]

I can take 3 people apart from myself, so Amar can join me if Satya
