Hi all,
I thought i will write a small note on the first lecture of the series.
Professor has a very sound profile being a part of many premier institutes in India and one of the particle physicist here. Its a plus point because we seldom get to meet such people and one should never miss an opportunity.
The lectures as the poster says is aimed at general public and Under-grad and Post-grad students. The content was simple, very much readable. The first lecture that was done today gave a brief introduction to Standard Model in High Energy Physics( Particle physics). With topics like Quantum field theory, Quantum Electro-dynamics, Feynman Diagrams, Quantum chromo dynamics , Higgs boson - its discovery, Higgs field theory ( just some important points) etc being touched upon. His expertise is shown in making the lecture free of any equations and also the way he skimmed over these complex topics at a students level.
For a Post-grad or Grad student, who has done some course on Particle physics, it surely was too simple but was a good brush up of basics and a chance to re-kindle the interest. From an under-grad or general public POV, it was a good talk.
Tomorrow there are two sessions. The morning session(10.30 am) he has promised to talk about neutrino and India's Neutrino Observatory and its functionality. The afternoon session(3.30 pm) is a blackboard seminar where he will probably cover more details on the basics of QFT, QED, QCD , SM and associated schemes with some more examples and probably sum equations.
