Announcement: BAS mailing list policy on "Commercial" posts

Greetings, Gentlepeople.

There was a discussion about posts of a commercial nature on the BAS mailing list, and this policy

came about as a result of said discussion. Here it is:

****** COMMERCIAL POST POLICY********

This policy describes the general guidelines for commercial posts on BAS Google group.

In purview of this policy, any “For Profit” service, or product would be considered as commercial in nature, and any post of commercial nature would be considered as a commercial post.

General Guidelines:

----------------------------

1. No commercial posts would be in the form of Advertisements.

2. Spamming of any form is strictly prohibited. Spamming of any commercial post will lead to the post being removed.

3. BAS does not endorse any Astronomy related commercial activity.

4. Any form of advertisement on an approved commercial post, will lead to the post being removed. 

For Profit Services Guidelines:

1. Commercial posts should be in the form of a For Your Information post. The post should provide information about the service, the cost, schedule(if any), the organisation conducting it, and links for further information.

2. All commercial posts need to be approved by a moderator before being posted to the group.

3. Please stick to *only* one thread per event.

For Profit Product Guidelines:

For commercial posts for sale of Astronomy related product(s), explicit request has to be made to the moderator by the member who intends to post such a post. The post will be allowed on a case by case as deemed appropriate by the moderator. Note, this

does not apply for posts from individuals wishing to sell or exchange their equipment.

Any post regarding product reviews, and non commercial discussion on astronomy products are allowed.

All commercial posts will be under the discretion of the moderator.

Thanks, very timely as well. As the member base increases, we need to have baselines.
