Dear Friends
I am planning to buy a telescope with my recently developed interest in star gazing. I have kind of shortlisted the Astromaster 70az and also looking at a higher spec with a stretch of my budget, so that the optics is good and i can hope to view with better clarity in the next few months once the rains are over.

Being a beginner, i am of the opinion that a refractor would be the right choice, as based on what i have gone through so far on the set-ups of reflectors, and the associated alignment issues with collimation etc.

I need suggestions and recommendations as to where to buy it in Bengaluru.

Warm Regards

Did you end up buying this? If yes, what's your first impressions? Would you recommend?

Sharmila,
We generally recommend starting with a pair of binoculars, especially if you are a beginner to the hobby. The Celestron Astromaster is what is called a 'Hobby killer' scope. A department store scope. Bad optics, even worse mount. The slightest movement, and the scope vibrates like crazy. Plus the eyepieces provided are mediocre, at best. For about the same price you can get a good pair of binoculars. Olympus, Celestron, Nikon, Pentax, are some of your options. A 8x40 or a 10x50 binocs will offer much better views.
Start off with binocs, attend a few of our star parties. Experience some telescopes hands on, then decide where you wish to spend your hard earned money.
