I think the first step in formulating a plan to move forward is to get some clarity about the current problems and those we see in the near future.

Here is my list:
  • Reimbursement per visit
  • Increasing co-pay amounts, limiting peoples access to PT
  • Increasing health insurance premiums for my employees
  • POPTS in the community positioning with hospital systems
  • Something that I have not thought of yet.....

Hi John,
I would add increasing the public's awareness of what we do and improving documentation efficiency. I think the association can help with both of these but we will need this group to help get behind these efforts.
thanks,
john

Thanks John!
In what way, specifically, does can this group "get behind" these efforts? The more specific the description the better!

Hi John,
Great question! RC 24-13 is an Arizona motion that will be presented next month at the 2013 House of Delegates that is intended to improve documentation as we look into alternative payment models. I am attaching that motion to this email. Blair Packard initiated this motion so you know their has been a lot of thought put into it. I would encourage each member of the private practice SIG to contact 10 of your out-of-state friends an ask for their support of this motion. Those friends can talk to their delegates in their state and we can create a grass root network of support.

In regards to promotion of physical therapy, Sheryl Keeme is the new executive director for the AzPTA and she has a lot of marketing experience. You may know her personally as she set up the bicycle event for several of the MS 150 ride for multiple sclerosis.  Look for her to open up and shift gears for the association to many future opportunities to help promote physical therapy.  I think we can all benefit from Sheryl and I think this group can go to her with suggestions that she will run with and be successful.
thanks,
john
