Nome dos Vapores

Caros amigos!

Alguém saberia me informar o nome de um vapor que por exemplo, saia de Ponta Delgada? Eu entro nas pesquisas de passaporte e vem as seguintes informações: ano, mês, dia, nome, filiação,idade, estado, concelho,freguesia, ocupação...etc, etc, porém, não consigo localizar o nome do navio.

Please share the year and other information so we can see if it matches those of our ancestors.  If you know the ship’s destination (Hawaii or Fall River USA for example) we can possibly help.

Fabio,

Ponta Delgada did not record the name of the ship. But when the ship arrived in America, the American arrival records recorded the name of the ship.

1880 Mar 16 - Manuel Rodrigues Marques, son of Jacinto Rodrigues Marques and Anna da Souza, he is 27, married, from the council of Povoação, freguesia of Mãe de Deus, worker, traveling with his wife Maria Thereza Cabral de Mello, 23 years, and son Manuel, 16 months. They are going to Brazil. 

The ship is not named, as Ponta Delgada doesn't do that. So you will need to check on the Brazil side to see if they recorded the names of the incoming ships.

Obrigado, Cheri! Ele era um "Rapozo Marques"! Agora vou tentar descobrir o que ocorreu com  o navio aqui no porto do Brasil, pois a criança que ele levava retornou para São Miguel para lá se casar(em 1901) e depois trouxe a esposa novamente para cá, e eu não encontro o passaporte dela nem o dele. Não sei se eles emitiam passaporte para ela ou como ela ia com ele, não precisava.

Hi Fabio,

By 1901, each individual were listed separately in the passaportes. They no longer grouped them together as one family.

Passaportes were usually issued within 2 months of the departure.

If they had to get back sooner, they may have sailed out of another port (Angra, Horta, or Flores - whose books no longer exist). However, some ports were the ONLY port to sail to a particular place. For example, for those that wanted to go to the Kingdom of Hawaii had to get to São Miguel, as that was the only departure port for Hawaii. I do not know which other ports sailed to Brasil.

Records on that page show the name of the ship as the "Açor" which is a Portuguese ship.  This should be it on this website:
