I'm searching for my 5th grandfather's hometown and ancestors. I just know his name Francisco da Fonseca de Miranda and the name of his father João da Fonseca , of course I know his wife's name in Brazil and most of his children (14?) and dates from census and when he got married (1771) and when he died(1812). the book of marriages of that year disappeared and throughout the baptisms they only say Francisco was from the island of São Miguel. I did a lot of research through the registers of the island using the excellent site of the Direção Regional do Açores and the one that I got close to any results was the village or town of Santo Antonio Alem Capellas where there is a Francisco son of João da Fonseca born about the time that makes sense with the rest of dates that I have. Is anyone that you know that could help me further this search ? I thought about João Ventura . Any suggestion will be much appreciated.
Carlos

Hi Carlos,

Do you want to hire someone to verify that the Francisco you found is your Francisco? Or you want to hire someone to build the tree back from the Francisco that you found?

Sao Miguel had about 60 some churches in the 1700s. I'm sure there is more than one Francisco born to a João Fonseca in the mid-1700s in São Miguel.

If Brazil does not have inbound passenger lists and his marriage did not state both of his parents, you may have to use DNA to figure this out. It will be a bit of challenge. That time period is difficult.

Hi Carlos,

A list of researchers for hire can be found here:

You may or may not have enough information for them to take on your case.

If they decline to take on your case because you need more research in Brazil, you might want to look at Isabella Baltzar (?sp?) sources to try:

Good luck,
