Hi all, I'm reviewing an obit and see some verbiage that I've not seen before.  May be nothing at all but I'm curious what it means.

Jose, No. 103.  The words after his age, what are they and what is the context?

Thanks.

The words filho natural means she Antonia Moniz is not married and did not name the father.  The baby was about 18 months old, I would check the baptisms and see what it says also..

Hi, Dennis!

" Subsidiado” (Subsidized) means receiving some assistance (whether from a maternal institution or even from private individuals), however, as this child had a number for such assistance that is indicated as one thousand one hundred and thirty-seven (“mil cento e trinta e sete”,1137) and that he was a "natural" child, and not a legitimate one, he was possibly an assisted child.

I thought the original question was about the “subsidized number 1137” entry in the obit. I’m curious about that as well. I did read elsewhere that subsidies could be provided for funeral expenses, but I have no knowledge about what this particular notation means. Can anyone shed more light on that?

Ahh ok, thank you.  That is how I read it as well but I had never seen Subsidiado used in an obit before and was unsure if that was what it meant.

The mother had 5 children (of which 2 were deceased prior to that obit), all by unnamed father(s).  So, receiving assistance would make sense.

Thanks!
