Hmm, maybe our little notes to them about how great the site was lit a fire under them.

Dear Margaret,

Those records that you mentioned have been up for 6 months. Don't know
what the CCA are trying to say. Santo Antonio & Sao Roque do Pico parishes
have been "wating" for those 6 months!! I sure hope that they put the
rest up soon.

Hi,

Since I am new to this, what is CCA?
Also, my family is from Silveira & Ribeiro do Meio, Pico,
but birth and death places are listed as Lajes do Pico.
What does Lajes mean and is it similar to our counties?

Thanks,
Linda

Hi Linda,

CCA is Centro de Conhecimento dos Acores (Center for Knowledge of the Azores).  Their vitals are coming online.  Very slowly.  There is no time line posted and no rhyme and reason for how they put things up.  You can find the records here, but don't use Firefox.  It stops working right before you go to view the records.
http://pg.azores.gov.pt/drac/cca/ig/

The Azores is divided into 3 districts each with its own archive:  Ponta Delgada on Sao Miguel which houses the Sao Miguel and Santa Maria records.  Angra on Terceira which houses Terceira, Graciosa, Sao Jorge, and Pico.  Horta on Faial houses Faial, Flores, and Corvo.  Archives have records that are generally 100 years old or older.

Many of the larger islands are divided into concelhos or councils.  You can think of them like American counties.  Pico has 3: Madalena, Lajes do Pico, and Sao Roque.

You can see many of the concelhos here: http://homepage.mac.com/kmacardoza/Genealogy/maps.html
Just pick your island.

Just posted it Chris in the reply to Linda.
Don't use Firefox though.  It stops working right before you go to view the records.

When I went to the Azores in 2001 the Pico records were housed in
Horta, Faial not Terceira. Has that changed? Thanks..

Oops!  Sorry Pat!  I was tired and didn't type that right.  So I will type it all over again so everyone has the correct info.

SANTA MARIA & SÃO MIGUEL islands: In Ponta Delgada on São Miguel island.

TERCEIRA, GRACIOSA, SÃO JORGE: In Angra do Heroísmo on Terceira island.

FAIAL, PICO, FLORES, CORVO: In Horta on Faial island.

Gads!  What a brain fade!
