Hi all, I'm working on a portion of my tree which may be related to me.  I have hit a brick wall with one individual:

Manuel d' Oliveira
b. 20 Jun 1821, Sao Jose, Ponta Delgada
Father:  Manuel d' Oliveira (nat. Relva)
Mother: Maria Jacintha (nat. Sao Jose)
Paternal: Manuel d' Oliveira, Rosa Maria
Maternal: Francisco Cordeiro, Maria Cordeira

I'm looking to find his parents' baptisms.  I believe I may have found the mother's here.  I cannot locate any records of his father.

First I searched for marriages:
- Sao Jose 1811-1821 (Note the marriage on 20 Nov 1814 is not his parents, even though the names match.  Maria Jacintha was a widow and I went back to her first marriage and her parents are not the parents listed on Manuel's baptism as maternal grandparents)
- Relva 1811-1821

Then I searched Relva baptisms 1793-1805 for Manuel and could not find anything.

So long story short, if someone has this parents of the Manual listed above in their tree or research, I'd appreciate any info.

Thanks!
Dennis

Hi JR, thanks for the quick response!  For the first two, what are your thoughts there?  None of the names match.  For the third, that was the one I referenced in my original post, neither individuals are the ones I'm looking for.  The parents of the bride and groom don't match according to grandparents in Manuel's (b. 1821) baptism.

I'm looking for the parents of Manuel (b. 1821).  Searching Sao Jose baptisms I was looking for Manuel's siblings.  I found this record and all facts (names, places) match except paternal grandfather.  Could be a clerical error on either Manuel or Joao's baptism (assuming they are even related).  Even with this new information (paternal grandfather Luiz d' Almeida), I cannot find a marriage of Manuel d' Oliveira and Maria Jacinta in Sao Jose or Relva within a few years of Manuel's birth in 1821.

Hi Dennis,

This is a long shot, but have you tried to find their death records?
Most of the time, they list an approximate age, which can help you narrow your search for their birth record.

I used this method frequently in my research, achieving a high success rate, and the records from the 1800s contain more information to aid in your search.
It's not an easy route!

Good luck
