I have been looking for anyone that can locate how the Pacheco name
came about to the Azores. My dad was from Ponte Garca born in 1923,
don;'t know much about his dad, though he dies in Bermuda. I have a
health issue that is prevalant in Scandinavia. Anyone trace the name
up there? thanks

India with 13 caravels and accompanied by such distinguished catains
as Dias and Duarte Pacheco, landed in Brazil, coming from Cape Verde

idea of Cabral having been the first to discover Brazil, like the idea
that his landing there was accidental, has now been given up by some

Hello, my name is Spencer Pacheco. My family is from Riberia Cha, Sao
Miguel. From what my family as told me and from what i have learned
from my own research, there is no Scandinavian in our line. The name
itself originated in Southern Portugal.

Speaking of the Azores in general, i have never met anyone with any
kind of Scandinavian decent. The most common is Portuguese(mostly),
Flemish (Belgian Dutch), African, and Moorish. In some rare cases
Brasilian and Spanish.

Good luck
Saude

I too am from Ponta Garca. What part of Ponta Garca was your father
from?

As to Pacheco, it goes way back to the beginning of Portugal and
before. Eloise Cadima, a fine researcher, once wrote a piece in the
old Rootsweb list that stated the name goes all the way back to the
Romans and a General named Pacheco. And, as you know, the Romans were
in Portugal and called in Lusatania- that is, land of light, due to
the amount of light Portugal received. The Pacheco's of the Azores can
probably be traced back to about 1500 or so. Whether one links to the
big names or not, is a matter of research and one can't assume that
all with the same name are actually descended from the same branch.
