Hi,

I cannot find the marriage record of my 7th great-grandparents, Martinho Pereira and Margarida Cabral from the parish of NS Rosario, Lagoa. They had at least 3 children between 1720 and 1725, namely:

Antonio Pereira, 1720
Jose Pereira, 1723
and
my 6th great-grandfather,

Manoel Pereira Cabral married twice. First, he married Ana de Souza, on April 19, 1750:

They had my 5th great-grandfather Pedro Pereira Cabral on July 30, 1760:

But at the ripe old age of 74, Manoel Pereira Cabral married Antonia Estrela:

Unfortunately, I cannot find the marriage record of Martinho Pereira Cabral in Rosario or Santa Cruz, Lagoa, in a 40-year interval. Does anyone else have more information on this couple?

Thanks!

Carlos

Cheers,

Linda, just a quick follow-up question:

Martinho Pereira's parents are Manoel de Paiva and Anna Frois/ Fernandes (???) or Anna Pereira (not convinced).

I think I found their marriage record on August 29, 1667 (at the bottom of the page):

"... Manoel de Paiva filho de (...?) Rodrigues Paiva defunto e de Cecilia Pereira moradores na (...) com Ana Frois/ Fernandes defunta...

How could he have possibly married someone who was already dead?

This one is a doozy....

Thanks,

Carlos

Carlos,

The site is down, so I can't see your records. We'll have to wait and see.

1st record:
Martinho Pereira, son of Manuel de Paiva (deceased) and Anna _____ with [bride] Margarida Cabral daugher of Joao Correia Lima and Anna Cabral.
I see nothing wrong with this record.

2nd record:
Manuel de Paiva, son of Al_____ Rodrigues Piqua (deceased) and Cecilia Pereira with [bride] Anna Fernandes (deceased) of this freguesia.
This guy is old or has some type of Parkinson's like disease. Maybe mixed with a toast (of oo much vinho). Yeah, you can't married a dead bride.

Thanks, Cherri.

In the first record, I cannot identify Anna's family name either. And there lies the problem because around that time, in NS Rosario, Lagoa, at least 2 other individuals named Manuel de Paiva married an Anna. I discarded other options because I thought I should look for a Pereira/Frois family name. Nevertheless, I do think that this is the correct Martinho Pereira's line because his paternal grandmother (Manuel de Paiva's mother) is Cecilia Pereira, so Martinho carried his grandmother's family name, or Manuel de Paiva was also known as Manuel de Paiva Pereira.

As for the second record, you've made another excellent suggestion, but I think that the priest wrote "Al____ Rodriques Piques". The family name Rodrigues Piques is identified in the well-known book by Rodrigo Rodrigues (I have a pdf). His first name could be Aleixo, but the g is clear...

Update: Martinho Pereira AKA Martinho de Paiva was the son of Manuel de Paiva e Ana Fernandes. Manuel de Paiva was the son of Aleixo Rodrigues Paiva (not Piques) AKA Aleixo Rodrigues (manservant of Manuel de Medeiros, according to this death record) and of Cecilia Pereira. I've found their family tree on FamilySearch with matching Parish records.

Thank you very much for all your help.

Carlos
