My regional genealogy society (Southern California Genealogy Society) asked if I could give a lecture on tracing immigrant ancestors. I said yes, but all my examples are for Portuguese ancestors and they were fine with that. Also, I usually present this in 4 lectures. The best they could do was give me a 1.5 to 2 hour block. So it's an overview of how to trace an immigrant.

It's virtual and free! It's this coming Saturday, April 11th at 1 pm PDT (2pm MDT, 3pm CDT, 4 pm EDT, etc). All you have to do is register.

Here's the blurb. It's being hosted by the "Lunch and Learn" group at the So. Calif. Gen. Society.

Topic: Cheri Mello presents “Tracing Your 20th Century Immigrant Ancestor and your Portuguese Ancestors”

Learn how to use U.S. sources to trace a 20th  century immigrant. Vital records, immigration records including alien registration and naturalization, as well as Social Security, draft records, and fraternal societies will show clues in tracing your ancestor.

Cheri Mello was bit by the genealogy bug in the 5th  grade. She began her active research over 30 years ago, after the death of her remaining grandparents. Her expertise ranges from America, to Portugal, DNA, genealogy software and more!
