I found the birth record of my great grandfather, Manuel Da Costa Furtado who came to Boston, MA on the SS Republic in 1904 in Sao Miguel. He was born in September of 1883 from Sao Miguel, Lagoa, Rosario Church.

Hi Jennifer,
There are about 70 churches on Sao Miguel island. And Manuel da Costa Furtado is common. I'm sure that name can be found in at least 50% of the parishes. So why do you chose Lagoa?

Yes that is it. It matches the names on the Massachusetts marriage record on the Family Search profile page I saw your name on.
16 Sep 1883 in Nossa Senhora do Rosario, Vila da Lagoa, baptized Manuel who was born at 10PM on day 6 of the current month (6 Sep 1883)
Son of Antonio da Costa Furtado, day laborer and Francisca de Jesus, domestic worker; natives of this same parish in which they married and are parishioners and residents of Rua de Formosa.
Paternal grandson of João da Costa Furtado and Isabel Candida; Maternal grandson of Manuel de Medeiros Santos and Maria Ricarda.
Godparents were Francisco de Medeiros Santos, married, farmer; and Maria da Gloria, married, domestic worker; residents of Cabouco.

The basic translation is: Manuel was born at 10 at night 6 Sep 1883 and baptized on 16 Sep at the parish church Nossa Senhora da Rosario in Lagoa. He is the son of Antonio da Costa Furtado and Francisca de Jesus who were from and married in the parish. Paternal grandparents were Joao de Costa Furtado and Isabel Candida. Maternal grandparents were Manuel Medeiros Santos and Francisca de Jesus.

Can someone help me with the translation of this marriage record. I believe this is my great great grandparents marriage record from Lagoa, Church of Nossa Sonhora de Rosario. Does it give the birth dates? Also, has anyone gotten Portuguese Citizenship through Ancestry? I wish my father would have done this while he was alive. But I am just curious if they allow descendants and how far back they allow.

The groom, age 27, single, farmer, native and baptized in the parish of Santa Cruz, this Vila and resident of Rua do Cabo de Villa; legitimate son of Joao da Costa from the same parish and Isabel Candida from Nossa Senhora da Estrella, concelho of Ribeira Grande. The bride is age 24, single, domestic worker, natural and baptized in this parish and resident of rua de ?; legitimate daughter of Manuel de Medeiros Santos and Maria Ricarda, both from this parish

It is definitely the record you want since the names align with your great grandfather's baptism. It looks like your great-grandfather's parents were second cousins.
As for your other question about your great grandmother, that will be difficult. All you have right now as far as I know are her parents names from the Massachusetts marriage in 1908. Rosa de Jesus, daughter of Antonio (de Jesus) and Maria do Rosario born about 1891 on Sao Miguel Island. These are very generic names and you don't have a surname to work with (de Jesus is likely not her father's surname) Hopefully you can find some church records or immigration records to give you her freguesia.

This is amazing. How did he find all of this??? Does anyone have Manuel Cesar Furtado's info? Also, I did DNA in the azores. I am going to submit my dads DNA since his is much stronger than mine since I am only half.

Not sure what you mean by you did your DNA in the Azores. That's where you took your test? The main testing venders for genealogy are Family Tree DNA, My Heritage, Ancestry, and 23&Me (Living DNA is the 5th one but they are British Isles based). Family Tree DNA and My Heritage accept transfers. The other 2 companies don't.

Thank you Cheri Mello. I had my father do a DNA test a few years back do the 23andme DNA test and I am uploading/transferring it into Family Tree DNA.
