Another little piece of the puzzle...my dad's first cousin was Manuel dos Reis Lima. He was born 01/06/1919 in Luz, Graciosa, immigrated to Turlock, California in 1960, and died 04/17/2005. This might help make a connection somewhere...or make it more difficult :-)

Hello Les
It depends on what you are looking for and the years of the event. Here are some of the primary numbers for my parish in Santa Cruz, which the index I have access is for:
1518510- Baptisms 1681-1841
1518545-Baptisms 1842-1886, Items 1-6 Births 1880-1884 of non catholics, item 7 marriages 1675-1808
1518546 Marriages 1809-1879, items 1&2,Obits 1675-1808 item 9
1330511-identical to 1518545 but a little better in the microfilm photography
1330512-Obits 1860-1876
1518510- Baptisms 1681-1841
1518545-Baptisms 1842-1886, Items 1-6 Births 1880-1884 of non
catholics, item 7 marriages 1675-1808
1518546 Marriages 1809-1879, items 1&2,Obits 1675-1808 item 9
1330511-identical to 1518545 but a little better in the microfilm
photography
1330512-Obits 1860-1876
Here is the information on the two that I found before. These two
would be in roll # 1518545 or 1330511:
M Raulino, Antonio Jose Maria Lusia BG 1869 9 13
M Raulino, Manuel Jose Georgianna Lusia GP 1869 9 13
With these reference numbers, the year of the marriage was 1869, the
document will be on page 9(normally on the right hand page, in the top
right hand corner of the document) and document number 13(document
number is in the margin above the given name of the individual).
Hope this answers your question.

Raulinos in my paternal line.
Thank you,

Thanks sweetheart. Now maybe we can continue our friendship. Lusaweb is so dead that I only look at it every other day or so. AZORES-L is also rather dead. This seems to be going pretty good. Thanks again for the welcome. I vaguely remember that Cheri told me when it first started and told me to join in but I was ill and just forgot. She just reminded me.
Again, Thanks Friend. By the way, I just turned 60 on Wed. so I think that means I can get away with a little bit more as a “dirty old man”. Only problem is that I’m a Christian so there goes that. Can’t win for loosing.
Thanks again for the welcome

I was thinking of something after I posted my reply to you earlier. I don’t know you so I have no idea what your experience level is in Genealogy Research. Have you worked at the LDS Family History Centers before. Have you used their website to find the film roll numbers. It can be rather hard and confusing if you haven’t done it before. Sometime ago, as the moderator for the forum in another site, I found myself answering questions about this subject on occasion. Finally, what I did is a rather large “cut and paste” and put all of these messages into one document, which I still have, and it gives you step by step instructions for using www.familysearch.org. If you would like a copy of this, please let me know and I’ll be glad to send it to your private email address. I doubt if any attachments can be sent to the web site. Let me know. This goes for anyone who is new and needs help.

Hello Arlene
As I just joined the group, thanks for Cheri, my good friend, reminding me for the umpteen time, I am still getting use to the names. So, forgive me while I learn your names and such. Thanks for checking the book on marriages. I have it but to be quite honest, I’m very ill right now and just couldn’t do anything else until I got in bed and got some rest. I have now had the flu twice in one month, one of the most serious new strains(I had my flu shots) this season. As a result, to show the seriousness, I’ve lost 30 lbs and still going. I can’t say I’m unhappy about that, since all the meds I have to take for another matter cause weight gain, and I could never loose the weight. I’m now down to my weight when I was a new Deputy Sheriff in Los Angeles County, which would have been 1969. That part I love. And, I’m going to get this out of the way right now. I am terminally ill, so, in the future, I hope everyone will understand if I don’t get back to you right away. I thoroughly enjoy helping others as my good friend John Vasconcelos did with me. Without him, I never would have made the breakthrough that I did in finding my family in Santa Cruz. No one in my mothers family knew anything other then she was from Flores. Big deal but a start. Thanks to John, the first day I posted my information in another site the the second day, John was giving me the information I needed to pursue my research. I was an Investigator for over 20 years so this research is right up my line. I love it and, again, I enjoy helping others make that big breakthrough, which has happened on several occasions so far. I was the moderator in another site which was what I enjoyed.
I’m glad that Arlene gave you the informnation. It was something I was going to check but hadn’t gotten to it yet. But, that’s what this site is all about. Helping one another.
God Bless and good hunting

Thanks so much for the gracious comments. I really try to help others. If it hadn’t been for John Vasconcelos being willing to help me, I don’t know where I would be in my research. I do know that now I”m back to them mid 1600’s and loving every bit of it. I”m so glas that my old(not in age) friends are here again, like you. I really enjoy working with you. God Bless you for your past help to me also.

Thanks for the help for Julia. I’m sure she will appreciate it. I had told someone else who looked things up in the book and found some information that I had just not had the strength at that time to look further. That was my next intended stop, thought. I got the book right after it was published, directly from Mr. Gomes, who I’ve know for some time. In fact, he had emailed me when it came out and I bought it from him. It’s a well worthwhile investment.

Cliff,
I saw your message regarding the Raulinos. In my book, "Casais das Flores e
do Corvo", it shows.... António José Raulino, age 21, born Angustias, Horta,
son of Manuel José Raulino and Georgiana Luisa, married 5/15/1869 Maria
Luisa, age 18, daughter of Francisco Manuel born Santa Cruz das Flores and
de Maria Luisa born in Corvo.
Arlene M.
Hi John
For whatever reason, I try and keep Cheri and Al Ramos out of the picture. I don’t want them to be bugged by everyone asking for the indices all the time. I mentioned your name since you were the one who actually did it for me, and I think that you can avoid people very easy. I have faith in you. I have only given the indices to two ladies in this entire time, and they both have all their relatives coming from Flores or Corvo. So, with Al’s permission, I gave them the indices. They both emailed a thank you to Al.
My theory on this subject is that most of the people may only have one or two people that they want to check, so there is no reason to pass on Al’s work product. Al spent years putting these together and I just want to be very careful who, if anyone, I would release it to. The main reason is that I can just see someone trying to put these in a book form and publishing it. Al doesn’t deserve it. It’s his product. Again, that’s why I don’t mention his name.
By the way, he wrote me today and said he is working on a final index and hopes to be able to finish it. Then, he said he will quit.
Personally, I still think he should get something for all his hard work. It wouldn’t take much to put these into a book and publish. But, that’s not my business.
Anyway, hope all is well with you. Keep in touch and if you’re in the area, please stop by. Just call me and I can give you directions again. My number is listed but not the address.
Regards
Cliff

Hello AlCliff Nye
Glad to help. Here are two documents which should help. The second one which is a “.doc” is a Word document and is the one where I did the “cut and paste” of several different postings I had done in another site. I sincerely hope that you are able to follow it alright.
Also, the first document is an article in the Doug Holmes web site, giving credit where credit is due, and has been very helpful to others. Thought it might bring back some memories for you in starting research again.
If you have any problems, let me know. The familysearch.org site can be very hard, especially when you get into the “place search” screen. Just try and do as I tell you in the posting and it should work alright.
Again, feel free to call upon me again if you need help!
Cliff, I would very much like to receive your document on step by step Instructions for using www.familysearch.org <http://www.familysearch.org> . I am just getting back to doing genealogy after dropping out for the past two years. I did continue receiving this Azores genealogy group mail and it has inspired me to get started again. Fortunately, I was successful in finding one of my great gramdmother's family (four generations). I'm glad you are back and thank you for forwarding that document.

Yes, there are a few Reis in my line. Particularly, there are Manuel dos Reis Correia and Maria do Conde de Eiro who were married February 6, 1745 in Sao Mateus, Graciosa. Their children were Maria dos Reis born April 10, 1746 in Sao Mateus and Manuel dos Reis de Eiro who married Maria Rosa July 19, 1767 in Sao Mateus.
Does this coincide with any of your information?

Hi Rosie
This is a problem that Cheri has been telling me about but this is the first time I have actually seen it. We’re still trying to figure out what is going on. Right now, I have the font sent to “Andale mono” which is one recommendation by Pac Bell to overcome the downsizing of the font. It looks like the old typewriter font, which is what it’s suppose to look like. All the font is the same width, even the M and W. So, this is my experiment to see how it comes out when I hit send.
Cliff
OK Cheri
Here is the difference, Note the smaller font from an earlier reply and this font, which is Andale Mono, one of the recommended mono spaced fonts. What do you think?
