I see that she died 11 March 1889, 80 years old, wife of Jose Francisco da Rosa, daughter of Antonio Silveira ?? and Maria Rosa. Witnesses were her 6 children and she was buried in the public cemetery.  I don’t think it says what she died of.  Maybe someone else can get the word after Silveira….

Sam
Do you think the word after Antonio Silveira could be Santa?

Sometimes, where there's some type of natural disaster, such as an earthquake, the priest will note at the beginning of that section that the following died due to the earthquake. Remember though that you are researching Catholic sacramental records which was to record the sacrament (extreme unction, last rites).

The word after the father's name is not Santa. It's not the same "S" as in Silveira.

It says she died with no will and left 6 kids. Not that the kids witnessed her death.

Although I agree that the script was not consistent (imagine that) so Santa does not look like it starts with the same letter as Silveira, I still think it might be "Santa".

Here is Maria Rita's page on CITCEM which gives her father as Antonio Pereira Silveira Santa http://www.ghp.ics.uminho.pt/geneweb/gwd.exe?b=CEDROS;lang=pt;p=maria;n=rita;oc=14

And here is her father's obit that gives his name as Antonio Silveira Santa: http://culturacores.azores.gov.pt/biblioteca_digital/FAL-HT-CEDROS-O-1845-1860/FAL-HT-CEDROS-O-1845-1860_item1/P77.html (bottom right)

Bill,
I knida wonder also because I have seen that script before in my family research but I just figured it was.  Now I really really want to be sure what the word is.  Maybe I'm just hoping it's Santa.

Thanks
Liz
