Since I'm now an official "gang" member (thanks Celeste!  Hee Hee), I thought I should put all the Ponta Garca (PG) researchers together as one entry.  So, who on this list is a PG "gang" member?  LOL
Thanks!

Hello Cheri:
You know that I have been a Ponta Garca researcher for several years
and feel tlhat I am a "gang member". Would like to see the member list

I have ancestors in Ponta Garca, although I'm not currently researching
those lines. Do I qualify for gang membership? If not, can I be one
of those girls who hangs on the gang members' arms? ;)

The "Ponta Garca Gang" members I know are: Shirley Allegre; John Rois'
wife; I think Pat Butcher; my husband, Bob Perry; (I seem to have
misplaced the card on which I had them all listed). I am sure Shirley &
John know all of them. Celeste

I don't have Pat Butcher's email.  Do you?  Do you want your email addy or your husband's on my PG list?  Richard Matera & Margaret Campos are also part of the "gang."  And I just met a new one, Lillian.  Now do I have everyone?
Thanks,
Cheri

OK, I copied it from my AOL address book.  I have: John Roias, Richard Matera, Shirley Allegre, Margaret Campos, Sarah@natividads, and now I'm to add Pat Butcher and Celeste Perry's husband.  And the new one Lillian.  Any others?

Hi Guys, I guess I was asleep at the "switch" ie "keyboard".  I too am from Ponta Garca.  very early on.  Here is my person, including notes from John, and my notes. Theresa

Descendants of Simao Velho

Generation No. 1

1.

SIMAO1 VELHO was born about 1668 in Need to check LDS #1388238 Cassamentos Items 7-9 1670> Vila Franca do Campo, São Miguel, Açores, and died 1743 in Santo Espírito, Santa Maria, Açores. He married GUIOMAR GOMES about 1688 in Not in Nossa Senhora da Piedade, Ponta Garca, São Miguel, Açores. She was born about 1668 (Checked from 1674> for this marriage and births did not find them in da Piedade,) and died February 1743 in Santo Espírito, Santa Maria, Açores.

Notes for S

IMAO VELHO:

Hi Theresa. It seems your Simao Velho was indeed in Ponta Garca. Though not an actual record of your ancestor, it refers to him as a witness. Here is

what I found. Antónia, filha de "parents cut out missing" born after Oct 12, 1699 and Nov/Dec 1 1699. I think it is possibly 11th of November, 1699. Pad- Joseph Rodrigues Guerreiro, son of Joam José Bofe? and Maria Guerreiro. and Luzia de Mello, spouse of Manuel Rois~(Rodrigues) Ribeiro, residents of PG. All the baptisms before 1703 are difficult to read and many times missing sections of pages, so that may be why you never found one of your ancestors children.

The bonus for me is that Guerreiro is line I have been tracking in Ponta

Garca and comes from Vila Franca

Where have you been?  De Sousa Calouro and Borges is my family. Yipeee!  My De Sousa Calouro is my father’s maternal side and Borges is my mother’s paternal side. I don’t have Maria Da Assuncao, but it could be because of the female line opposed to the male line which I have info on.

I have Maria Florinda dtr. of Lourenco Jose de Sousa and Luzia Rosa.  She married Adriano de Sousa Calouro b.abt. 1814.  Children was Modesto de Sousa Calouro m. Justina do Espirito Santo ? children.  Antonio de Sousa Calouro m. Querubina Mariana de Jesus in 1857.  Children was Antonio de Sousa (my ggrandfather) m. Jacinta Amelia, Jacinto ? m., Jose ? m., Manuel ? m., dtr ? m.

My Jose Borges was through the female line and not the male line.  Nicolao Francisco m.Theresa Borges.  There dtr, Mariana Francisca m. Jose Tavares. They had a son Joao Borges Tavares who m. Monica Jacinta de Jesus.  Their son was Francisco Borges Giesta m. Joaquina Rosa de Jesus.  Their son was Manuel Borges Giesta (my ggrandfather) b. abt. 1856.  I don’t have other siblings besides my grandfathers Manuel Borges Giesta.

All from Riberia Grande.

Interesting, Sarah is connected to my husband, Bob, on his paternal
grandfather's line (Sao Mateus, Pico) and now I suspect she is connected
to Bob's maternal grandmother's line (Ponta Garca, Sao Miguel). No
wonder I can't keep these names straight! Celeste

You can add me to the gang. I have at least two connections which I haven't
yet followed up because I am bogged down elsewhere.
Linda, I think that the RB gang woul probably end up pretty substantial. I
would have both N.S. da Estrela and N. S. da Conceicao as well as S. Pedro.

Hi Cheri and all PG "gang" members,

I'm a fellow PG "gang" member.  I'm researching Robello (Rebello),

Pimentel (Pimentel Calouro), Furtado, & Rodrigues from PG. Any

connections out there?

I'm trying to see if I have a connection to Furtado Laurencia, but I am
curious about your Rainha. I only know of it from my father mentioning there
was Rainha on his mother's side. That's all I got. Do you have any more on
that?

I just received this information from Cheri on this board.  She found it for me.  Francisco could be a child of my great, grand father., nothing for certain in that regard yet.  Don't know anything first hand about her through family history.  I'll be glad to share whatever I do find though.

Good Morning,

No unfortunately I don't have Simao Velho's parent's names. All their
children carried the last name of "Mello", except one who carried the name
"Gomes". Simao married Guiomar Gomes. The only connection I can see is to
"Luiza Mello who was married to Manuel Rois Ribeiro", which John Rois found
in a baptismal record. And that one is pure speculation. The other
information I have is, George Pacheco found the baptismal record of
Domingos Mello, son of Simao and Guiomar, in 1709, in Vila Franca.

The family lived and died in Santa Maria, Simao and Guiomar, were poor
mendicants, according to the obit.

Theresa

Denise:  I have Solanda Lopes, daughter of Afonsanes Cogumbreigo & Ines Martins, married to Afonso d'Oliveira.  Info is from FRUTUOSO, Vol. 1, page 178.
Do you descend from these people?
Ines Martins is the sister of my 57,191 Ana Martins.

Hi Shirley,

Actually I was wondering if she was the Solanda Lopes married to Martim Anes Furtado de Sousa; I emailed you privately about our connection to him.  I don't seem to have a tie to the people mentioned below at this time.  Thanks!

Hello Theresa,
Many thanks, I have a Simao Velho and parents, but I don't have his wife so
I still don't know if I have the right one.
Will just have to keep on digging!
