I'm very sad about the fact that we have people in this group of all islands
except Graciosa. Nobody is interested in Graciosa genealogy. If anyone wants to
tal k about this woderfull island i'm able to hel and get some information too.

Hi Manuel,
I for one appreciate all the information you gave me on my husbands ancestors  of your great island of Graciosa. Most of my ancestors are from Terceira and Santa Maria.  Right now we seem to have a run of Sao Jorge and Sao Miguel on  the list.  Stay with us, at some point Graciosa will come up.  I know you did all the marriages of Guadalupe.  Did you, or are you going to do Luz?  I have the film for both places, but I can't read them, because they are positive to negitive or visa versa, anyway the background is black and the writing is white. Its a struggle for me.

Hi Manuel,

 

I was born in S. Jorge island, I visited Graciosa many times and let me tell you that, in my personal opinion, Graciosa is one of the most beautiful and the locals are wonderful, they make you feel home.

 

I dont know how much of Graciosa you have but my wife has an ancestor from there. His name was João Correia Pereira and he was married to Ana do Rosário. They had a son, Boaventura, b. in S. Mateus Nov. 28 1803. Dont know if you have their marriage.

 

Also, I have in my data a Primo de Sousa Espinola, b. in Guadalupe about 1858, his parents were Sebastião Espínola Pacheco and Maria Genoveva.

 

Do you have this family?

My paternal grandfather's family is from Graciosa, and I have information about some of his ancestors. His name was José Correia de Lima born 1 April 1873 in São Mateus (Praia), Santa Cruz, Graciosa. He immigrated to central California with an older brother, António. Another older brother, Tristão, immigrated to California where he met and married his first wife, had a child, then returned to Graciosa. He had two more daughters, before his wife died. Tristão married again and had three more children.

There's still a Lima family home in Fenais from which my dad's first cousin emigrated in 1960. His name was Manuel dos Reis Lima (son of Tristão and his second wife), and I was fortunate to have met with him a few times before he died in 2005.

As I said, I have more information about my Lima ancestors. A few other names: de São Joze, Bettencourt, Matos, Eiró, de Miranda, de Azevedo...and others. What names do you have? We can exchange information to see who we have in common.

Manuel de Sousa Machado married to Isabel Clara de Bettencourt

Daughter, Maria Clara de Sousa, born: October 17, 1752 Luz, Graciosa

Married, Matias Jose de Bettencourt, June 28, 1776, Luz. 

Matias was born, February 24, 1734 in Santa Cruz, Graciosa.

If you should have information for these couples it would be appreciate.

Nothing to be sad. Just accept it as a fact of life...

There are nine islands, so it is natural that some are
more actives than other.

I do empathize with your feelings, because I do have
Azorean ancestrals from five islands and only once in
a while I can pick some connection or information. That
is because I do start from 1750 backwards, while the
vast majority of the people on the list searchs from
1800 onwards.

Here follows my ancestrality from Graciosa. Take a look
and let us see where we can exchange connection or information.
It is in Portuguese and a little lenghty, but I am sure you
can manage it.

Hi Ary,

Wonder if you have any info about dos Santos Verissimo. My grandfather Sebastiao dos Santos Verissimo left mainland Portugal for Manaus, Brazil sometime after 1905 and before 1907. My grandmother returns to Portugal but Sebastiao stays in Brazil and that's all I know.

I'm told Verissimo isn't all that common a name so I still have hope that someone, somewhere will have information.

I feel so bad for you right now after reading your post. Graciosa, I have
been told, is a very beautiful island. However, you're right. I haven't seen
many postings for Graciosa. I use to feel that way about my family surname,
which is an Alcunha, and for which I have only received one other person,
just recently, inquiring about the name. My family is from Flores which also
gets much less attention. So, if I may suggest, hang in there and
eventually, maybe, someone will come along and want to talk about your
beautiful island or one of your family surnames.

and I live in "far" south....
