This is a long shot, but curious of anyone knows any information on:

Instituto do Bom Pastor - Lar Filomena da Encarnação

It was started from a cousin of my great-grandfather's who was a priest in Sao Miguel. His name was Manuel Augusto Pereira Dias, he died Mar. 1, 1953.

He lived at Rua de Lisboa 49-B

and his nephew, another cousin of mine, was Manuel Maria de Melo; he wa a Professor.

Any information or research you may have on the above would be greatly appreciated!

Obrigado!

Hi Kayla,
I have a list of seminary students for the Azores. It's from the 1860s until around the early 2000s.

There's a Manuel Augusto Pereira, native of Lagoa on Sao Miguel, son of Francisco Inacio Pereira and Antonia Isabel do Carmo, he was 18 and admitted to the seminary (in Angra) on 4 Sept 1878. So if it's your guy, he was born c. 1860.

Priests had to research 4 generations to prove they had no Jewish blood. This is part of the De Genere paperwork. If this is your guy, you would want to contact Joao Ventura, the archivist in the Azores, and pay him to retrieve the De Genere papers on Manuel Augusto Pereira (Dias). Joao can be reached at heroi99 at yahoo.com
